Musk says he's going to launch an "AI game studio" at his xAI startup.

I'm sure he'll do it right after launching Hyperloop

[–] [email protected] 113 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Elon's companies have been successful despite his input, not because of it. If you're interested, do some reading on how middle-management protected their teams from his nonsense in both Tesla and SpaceX, basically just feeding him bullshit that sounded good and ignoring him whenever possible. Those people are why the companies have thrived.

Shit, just look at Twitter before and after. The valuation difference is staggering.

[–] [email protected] 59 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

twitter is probably the best thing to happen for spacex, testla and other companies lol. He just spends all his time shitposting.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 weeks ago

Not to mention all the preference he will show his own companies because of the appointment buying Twitter got him.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I tell people this all the time. There are people who have the job of distracting musk like a 3 year old. They don’t believe it and continue to worship him. They act like he personally invented everything and refuse to accept the truth. The only thing he actually invented was the cybertruck.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Did he actually invent the Cybertruck? He drew the world’s shittiest picture that was all straight lines and then made a bunch of toddler-level claims about its abilities while demanding results from the teams of real people that actually had to make his nonsense even somewhat functional.

People who deserve the title of inventor actually do the fucking work. He just said “and it’ll be invincible and climb over mountains and can pull GOD and be SO COOL”

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I read this whole article by some truck review guy? And he was confused because he said the cyber truck came within a hair of filling a niche in the truck world that was pretty much free to take, but just narrowly ended up being in a much better established range of trucks that it had no hope in competing in. So yeah.. he did all the demanding and none of the thinking, and everyone else was just there for the paycheck.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The niche was what the Rivian and fuck, even the F150 Lightning are doing. The Cybertruck looks like ass and I could almost say the appearance is “kinda neat for trying something different” if it wasn’t such a dogshit product in every single way.

It's risk assessment.

If you have a startup and someone offers you 9 figures so they're the CEO and you still run the day to day...

You'd be an idiot to risk it, because any number of billion dollar companies can fuck you over thru innumerable ways.

So every once and a while someone with shit tier risk assessment lucks out and suddenly becomes unimaginable rich. And those are the people making offers on the next generation of startups.

The system is set up so the worst people possible run shit. Because no sane person would keep "letting it ride" to the point they make billions, and a crazy person who does becomes too big to fail. And once they get to that point, they've convinced themselves no one else is smart enough to play Russian roulette 100 times in a row.

At that point they've conned themselves into really believing they're geniuses who know more than anyone.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I had a boss like that once. Yes, it can be done.

But the bottom line is they still think they're great and everything will go on.

That is very harmful to society.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Shotwell is an amazing person for operating SpaceX to such success, despite all of Elon’s efforts to the contrary, like trying to cancel Falcon Heavy.

[–] [email protected] 84 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

...wait, actually this has the potential to be amazing! I remember the early days of online gaming, and gamers for the most part were some of the most welcoming and friendly people I've ever been around.

Something changed, and 'gamer' became a toxic word, and all but niche gaming communities kinda went to shit.

If Elon makes some cringe-ass MMO or something, it will act as a sponge to soak up all the toxic assholes from other gaming communities.

Do it.

So the next greatest game will just be "around the corner" and "nearly complete" every year for decades then?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 weeks ago

Don't forget, he knows more about ~~manufacturing~~ game development than anyone currently alive on earth.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Him and Todd Howard would get along

Then let's get ready for a ww2 game where you save Nazis instead of killing them. And then you shoot the American troops and call them "woke libs" /s

Saving Private Gunther

[–] [email protected] 34 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

He is the most unlikeable twat on the planet.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

From one of the most respected individuals to an absolute joke of a man in a few years.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

He was always a "lie, lie and lie until you make it" kind of guy, it's just that in the last couple of years he's been doing it widely enough and long enough that the real results of enough of his lies came though and enough people started suspecting his words and looking at them more carefully and spotting the lying early.

As the saying goes, "you can deceive some people all of the time or all people some of the time, but you can't deceive all people all of the time" - and at some point, when he became more widely known, he seems to have gone from the first mode to the second and by now he's run out of time.

Doesn't he know Epic Games studio already exists? The market for grand-standing self-righteous game-makers is pretty tapped at this point.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

They might actually get along. The CEOs of both happen to be hypocritical asswipes who think providing a worse product and complaining about competition will give them the monopoly they're pretending to not want.

Just when I thought he couldn’t get any edgier with a black MAGA hat, I noticed the font he used….

I can't even begin to imagine how fucking lame and cringe a game made by Elon Musk would be. Much less how buggy and unplayable.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You play as doge and collect dogecoins to spend on memes. The game is called X and it runs a crypto miner on your gpu when you play it (you get coins in game, Elon gets coins in real life).

You can pay for X premium for $10/month which unlocks cosmetics and lets you access the members-only chatroom

Considering the growth he's experienced from his 20s to now, he'll probably try and make a Quake 2 clone.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (4 children)

I'll be pissed if elon starts pumping out good games. I don't count on it but looking at the market it's not impossible.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I mean he already said the word AI which means he is going to likely favor output volume over the love indie devs and old companies poured into their games. So chances are very slim. Knowing him, I guess the game will be about some genius who tries to save the world and go to Mars and be the sole male responsible for repopulation. So yeah, it might turn into a Larry game which takes itself too seriously.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He's made it abundantly clear how much he despises the entire concept of labor, of having to pay money to people to do the things that actually make a company work. He will not be able to build a company that actually makes games with that kind of disdain for the single most important resource required to make them. And his strategy of acquiring an existing company and gutting it afterwards won't be nearly as effective in the games industry, where you have to be continuously producing NEW content.

I loved it when Amazon, Google, and Netflix got into the gaming industry and tried to throw billions of dollars and their startup software expertise to "revolutionize" game studios.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Releasing even bad games is already a feat. Considering how Musk doesn't know how to run a web development company I would be surprised if his "game studio" releases anything. The only way that company releases anything is if Musk won't be involved, and we know the "expert at everything" will be involved.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 3 weeks ago

He should make a meta verse. I still won't buy it, but having 2 of them completely fall flat because a billionaire thought they knew what entertainment was would almost be as funny as that time Sony re-released Morbius in theaters.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, sure, go ahead.

It’s one of the most benign things he does and it’s not like it’s gonna affect existing good game.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 weeks ago

Good thing I've always wondered "what if someone did an Activision, but worse?"

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Talented people fail to make a career in gaming. Idc how many mines his daddy owned, he's not going to make a good game. Although we should encourage him to do it. Making games would obviously waste the time he uses to harass people.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Let's not forget: he's not making shit. He's gonna pay some poor fucks a pittance (if he decides to pay them at all) to make a lousy fps or whatever

"Elon Musk is gonna make you his bitch."

But this time, actually true if you buy his games.

mgga?

mgga please. that shits dumb af.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

Musk should buy Bethesda. Gut it like he gutted Twitter. Start development on something random -- the Elder Scrolls VI: Kingdom of Doge.

When it comes out, it will be a horrible, poorly made mess. Just like a regular Bethesda game but extra enshittified. He can charge extra for it to make it seem super premium.

People will eat it up.

Worked for Tesla.

Edit: /s obvs

Ah yes, gaming. That one industry you can't really fake past a certain point or everyone will boycott, call it boring or go on strike?

Perfect. Good decisions. Waste as much money as possible. I hope Ubisoft is in on it. Take as many shit-for-brains publishers and devs as you can gather. They forget half of the industry is wearing knee-high socks and cat ears. Propaganda games will go over like trying to sell kale to a shark.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

Forget what these folks say; it's all an excuse to start companies that can be awarded no-bid contracts from the government they "want to dismantle"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

Cannot wait for him to start putting out soon to be classic titles like "Ethnic Cleansing", "Concentration Camp Simulator", and "Deportation Station" to counter the woke libtards.
