I used to say there's no way in hell anyone would ever get me onto a cruise ship, but this is enticing.
But it's just a different kind of hell
And an expensive one at that.
Depending on where you live, rent/mortgage is generally 20-30k a year for people who can even consider this. Add in utilities, property tax, etc and it is not that much higher. And if any meal plans are included in this, it is potentially cheaper than what a lot of the FIRE crowd would be expecting to pay.
That said: After cruise ships became literal plague ships in 2020, I do not know why ANYONE gets on a frigging cruise anymore.
And an expensive one at that.
$40k a year sounds super reasonable.
That's per person, double occupancy. Going alone is $64k.
But it does include meals, housekeeping biweekly, port fees and taxes, and all the amenities on the ship. Honestly not bad, if you can sell your house and downsize into a suitcase.
Maybe for a cruise of that duration, yeah. I'm just comparing it against what I make in a year and how much it currently costs me to live in a house on land.
I could afford to make it an "or" situation but not an "and".
$40k a year is probably for a tiny inside cabin with no window, and only enough room for a week's worth of clothes. And no permanent address, if you want something that is not available on the boat you will have to figure out how to get it at the next port.
You can order amazon deliveries to most cruise ships now. They have onboard ~~slaves~~ valued team members and a desk where you can pick up your packages, and amazon handles the logistics of getting stuff onto the boat. I fucking hate them all the more because of how impressed I am by this truly astonishing feat of logistical engineering. I guess it makes sense that they could do this though, since amazon already has installations at pretty much every port in the world this isn't much of an investment on their part.
People who can afford cruises aren't going to be the ones disproportionately affected by Trump's policies.
Economic policies, sure. But there are social policies and perhaps more importantly a culture of intolerance that can affect people over a wide range of economic status.
I think I'd just add "straight white people" to the qualifier and then I'd agree though.
Four years of gastrointestinal distress sounds like a good option
Well, it's either that or the cruise ship ...
Of course, the solution to elect the dumbest person on the planet twice is to pollute the planet as much as possible. These people are the fucking worst.
Fear has been successfully commodified.
Just now?
Always has been, friend
it would be pretty funny if they all came back home at the end of 4 years and suffered massive culture shock, because we all know the chaos won't end with his term. at least I'm stuck here so i can ease myself into this new hellish reality gradually.
People that can afford 40k a year on this and can work remotely if they even need to work at all don't need this option. They could move to literally any other nice country in the world.
Poor factory worker schmucks like me need a way out and it doesn't seem like there is one :/
Just pay for a month and take over the ship.
We won’t run out of food if we eat them.
NGL, I hate cruises so much I think I'll chance it with the dictator.
Worst vacation ever. Plus we were on the cruise before that carnival ship got stuck in the Gulf. We ended up in progresso instead of Cozumel because the previous outing was behind schedule.
Reality is that bucket was running on one engine for weeks and the other gave out.
I’m gonna be puking and shitting myself anyway.
It's like going on holiday to a warehouse surrounded by water.
The Titanic 2: Electric Boogaloo
There are plenty of horror stories regarding long term cruise living. No thanks.
Isn’t the Venn diagram of people who didn’t vote Republican and people who enjoy cruise ships just two disjoint circles?
That’s the probably the angle.
“His do we get entice people who hate cruise ships to get on a cruise ship?”
“Point out that, unlike democracy, it’s a boat that Trump can’t sink?”
“Hmm… you may be on to something…”
Did diarrhea and CO2 write this?
I think this beats the JoCo Cruise as the most appealing bougie cruise, in my head.
