Bernie Sanders wins fourth term in Vermont, defeating Republican Gerald Malloy

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., won reelection Tuesday, defeating Republican Gerald Malloy and securing his fourth term in the U.S. Senate. At 83, Sanders will continue his decades-long career in Washington with another six-year term.

Known as a leading progressive, Sanders has championed policies like Medicare for All and a higher federal minimum wage. First elected to the U.S. House in 1991, Sanders moved to the Senate in 2007 and ran for president in 2016 and 2020.

Though he is an Independent, Sanders is expected to continue caucusing with the Democratic Party.

It's truly baffling that people could look historically at US elections and unequivocally say "When people are concerned about the economy, the incumbent party doesn't do well...........................................but this election it'll be different!"

The betting odds aggregators currently have Trump at 56% chance to win, Harris at 43%.

So far, the states with a marked increase in third-party votes compared to 2020 only have that increase because the Greens were only write-in candidates last time. Virginia's the biggest difference I've found, but so far I'm pretty disappointed that the total third-party numbers aren't noticeably going up.

Take New Jersey, for instance, which should have been safe enough that any Harris-skeptic would have felt free to vote for a leftist candidate. Last time, the Libertarians were in third place with 0.7%. Right now, the Greens are in third place with 0.7%.
