Posting here since a bunch of Hexbearinians talked about playing the game.

Chapter 1 spoilerWhat loadout do you use against Balteus?

I went with:

  • reverse joint legs
  • left: laser blade and plasma blade (weapon bay OS upgrade)
  • right: starter assult rifle and plasma gun (weapon bay)
  • FCS and thrusters that are unlocked in the training missions

My man Balteus is nutting and busting missiles everywhere. I found normal biped legs unplayable in this fight. Being airborne helps a lot against him plus his plasma shield makes you need to stick close to him. So I thought reverse joints were the only viable option here.

I didn't see much use out of the assault rifle. The plasma gun though seems essential for breaking the plasma shield. I used that plus the melee weapons to break the shield.

While selecting two melee weapons on the left side, I was a bit conflicted. It seemed mad but at the same time it made sense to me. My strategy then was to try and stay close to the enemy. Whittle down the shield with plasma gun and melee weapons. When the shield is about to go down, make sure melee weapons are ready. As soon as it goes down, dish out as much damage as possible with the melee weapons. Repeat.

For the second phase I ended up being lucky mostly. I was jumping around frantically and was somehow able to avoid most of the laser sword attacks.

Alternate: it is doable with with an ultralight. Build the Schneider mech out of the shop, STOCK PULSE SWORD and your choice of main firearm. First phase STAY ON HIM. In fact, right as the fight starts, boost underneath him, the first volley of missiles will shatter on his own shield and you'll take no damage, plenty of time to get a charge swing of your sword in. When he's not firing salvos of missiles this guy likes to do a couple pirouettes over your head then take off in the opposite direction you are facing, don't get confused and STAY ON HIM. if you can keep close, he won't get a good angle to fire his main cannon, and the pulse sword chunks his shield. If you have two bays of the STARTER MISSILES equipped to the shoulders you can sometimes crack his shield before Balteus fires his second salvo. KEEP HIM STAGGERED, you can get him to phase two without a second shield sometimes if you are aggro enough (the SHOTGUN can really help with this, but you might find phase two to be a bit ridiculous with that short-range of a build)

PHASE TWO: DONT GET HIT. you are a freaking mosquito and Balteus just broke out the blowtorches for your annoying ass. Between his main cannon, 2x the missiles per salvo, and those dang torches, if you catch stagger you are gonna have a bad time. Keep max distance, always hold some stamina in reserve, and when he swings for you (sometimes one big one, sometimes a combo, watch for it) dodge to his backside and get a swing in, the largest attack opportunity is after he does this biiiig area denial attack where he hovers in place and sprays fire everywhere, get good hits in on his shield here. Shield is popped and you are back to phase one tactics, pressure that damage, only watch out for a couple really sneaky things this guy does (point blank main cannon, boost away with the engines right in your face OW OUCH). You won't be able to get him in one shield pop after phase two (I'm sure it's possible but I couldn't) so get good damage in then reset.

This is definitely not the easy way, but it sure is fun

On the armored core subreddit, folks are saying tank legs with dual shotguns and dual lasers are good against him. Gonna try your suggestion and theirs.

I used the samurai biped legs, dual shoulder railguns, the plasma gun and the pulse sword. Used the pulse shield OS upgrade to give me a get out of jail free card.

Still difficult with that build and phase 2 required some luck because my stamina was always down when the "Waves are Intensifying ™" and if you get hit with that blast you're basically insta killed because he immediately follows up with a one hit kill.

What's the samurai biped leg? Not ringing a bell for me sorry.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's the heavy duty one, kinda looks like samurai armor on the back

I get it now. Thanks.

Phase 2 kept kicking the shit out of my ultralight so I switched to super heavy tank w/ double Grenade launcher & shoulder energy lazer

I do not look forward to s ranking that mission later

I tried heavy tank with double shotgun and double laser rifle (the hand ones equipped to the back with the weapon bay) and found it subpar. I was able to bumtush Sulla with this but breaking the boss' plasma shield was too big an ask. Will try it with rocket launchers and the enery lasers.

Honestly I think ultralight is very good against this boss. I just beat it again with the aforementioned reverse joint build and I am not playing very well. For his second phase, a youtuber called ongbal recently uploaded a video of his fight against this boss. He is an epic gamer. In the second phase he uses distance (the g*mer term is "spacing" I think) to avoid the fire attacks. You can watch the video for help with strategy in case you are interested. He uses a normal biped build but I think the fundamentals should be the same.

What platform is this for? Decal codes are sadly platform specific. This doesn't work on PC.

I had no idea it was platform bound.

It's for Playstation. Looks like this:

Magnificent. It's annoying that these are platform locked. I hope they resolve it with an in-game share feature or something, the editing is really interesting. I'm collecting things for a punk-ish Tank Girl inspired mech.

Thanks. Yours is great too.

Thanks, I stole it though. Even as a joke I don't think I could spend any time re-making wagner's logo.

I did Balteus in like 2 tries.

Maximum speed build biped mech.

Right shoulder: 10x vertical missile launcher

Left shoulder: Sniper laser

Right hand: Shotgun

Left hand: Pulse sword

Just go ham, dodge the missiles and literally never stop pounding him with everything you have. In particular you want 2 sword slashes whenever he's stunned. You will get a wombo combo with the sword+laser during these stuns, while shotgun + missiles make for persistent high impact damage throughout the fight.

I had much much more problems with the Chapter 2 end boss.

Tried a bunch of different loadouts 'cause I kept getting my ass kicked, but what finally worked was:

  • Quad legs to help stay airborne when needed
  • FCS good at close & mid range
  • The boosters with 3 nozzles and blue exhaust flames
  • Laser blade (the one you start the game with) on left arm
  • Honestly don't remember what I had on the right arm, but it was either a rocket launcher or a pulse rifle
  • Shield on the left shoulder
  • Forward firing missile pod (the one you start the game with) on the right shoulder

Really should've gotten a weapon that was good at dealing with shields, but I didn't have one yet and went into the mission not knowing that I'd need one. At least the laser blade proved decent at doing damage to the shield.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The starter laser blade is actually a pulse blade which is great for damaging the pulse shield.

What's great about this game is that currently I cannot envision how someone could beat this enemy with a build different from mine. I am gonna scour youtube and see the different ways folks are defeating it in.

Working on it currently with tank treads, bazooka, pulse gun, overhead plasma missiles, and buckler shield. I think this could work if I had the equipment to commit more to the tank build, especially the core, so I gotta go grind for that

SUCCESS! I upgraded my core and ditched the shield for an over shoulder laser cannon. Great build, I'm falling in love with the tank treads.
