Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

I am an Asexual, Heteroromantic Cisgender Man, I am 24, and I am studying to be an accountant.

My interests consist of Fairytale retellings, talking about the negative effects of Toxic Positivity, having imaginary conversations with myself and talking to imaginary people that care about me, playing Fallout and Minecraft and 7 Days To Die. I am also a fan of Star Wars. And Tomboys.

Today, I got a 3 day temporary ban on Reddit, on a bullcrap "Glorifying Violence" Charge, when all I did was point out how beneficial it was for the people of The Soviet Union when the Capitalists were killed off in Russia. (There goes my 153 day streak for Reddit)

Now, I realize, without my Reddit account, I have nothing to myself. No friends, at least none that I am able to regularly talk to due to them being busy, but does that count as friends? And yeah, I just realized just how lonely and miserable I truly am. I have been at university for about 3 years now, and I have not made a single friend, because all the people there are too-optimistic-for-their-own-good capitalists, who think that they can make their own small business within 2 years of graduation. And they are Liberals or Republicans.

So, given my narrow set of interests, partially due to having Aspergers, where would be a good place for me. Again, I am not a fan of doing anything unplanned, or something without even a second of thought before acting.

I am a pretty boring person otherwise.

NGL this sounds like you are acting in an exceptionally abrasive manner. Online is never a full replacement for having an IRL community you can do things with.

0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself sad. He is starting to suspect Kras Mazov fucked him over personally with his socio-economic theory. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.

I won't pretend to have a panacea for unlearning the pattern that led you to be completely alone, but joining uni clubs based on common interests are a cheat code for establishing a social network. You are not the One True Communist here to spread the light of True Socialism to the masses. In the best case you are a water molecule out of hundreds of thousands that breach a dam. Take yourself less seriously and fake a smile. Odds are there's at least one person on campus who already thinks you're really cute.

With that out of the way now that I have said what stood out to me in ur post, here is a short description of each of my twenty fave comms.

I am not alone because I am like Ayn Rand and think everyone is less smart than me. I am just simply shy and depressed, and an introvert. I was born with Clinical Depression, and I simply, a long time ago, gave up on trying to make myself be accepted. Sometimes, I try to renew efforts to find friends.

browse by Local/All tbh. The site default used to be subbing every new account to basically every comm, so that's how most of us are browsing, there aren't clean lines between comms, its one big community on this instance tbh

As far as IRL stuff, I would not focus on people's politics, as meaningful as it is to me and presumably you, most people have not thought theirs through in the same terms and to the same depth as you, and frankly they may have things to teach you as well. I won't say its easy but there's definitely worthwhile people out there in droves.

and I am studying to be an accountant.

Speaking as an experienced accountant, please reconsider. Don't waste your one life on counting pennies for tyrants. If I could do one thing different in my life it would be picking an education path that has the potential to help others.

When the revolution comes, I will happily lob molotov cocktails through bank windows.

It's the only thing I am good at. I can't make art, I can't do chemistry or anything in a scientific field, I am often too shy for a career involving social skills. I have already resigned myself to my situation.

In terms of comms with distinct vibes and culture, here are the real communities:

Every other comm either has the same general culture or isn't active enough to have its own culture.

So, given my narrow set of interests, partially due to having Aspergers, where would be a good place for me.

I guess you could try /c/neurodiverse although fair warning, most people there don't like the term "Aspergers."

I have used The term for my High Functioning Autism my entire life. What should I use to describe a particular form of High Functioning Autism that is marked by a notable reduction in development problems with social skills.

Just say you're autistic or have autism. In general, people also frown upon the low functioning/high functioning distinction.

@[email protected] has a good comment about it:

Last bit as an fyi: I know that you meant no malice by it but it's worth mentioning that the autistic self-advocacy community frowns upon categorising autism based on "severity" or "functioning" because this pathologizes people who are more unusual or who are more obvious in their autistic traits and it also conceals the fact that lots of people who appear to be very capable of expressing the "appropriate" tone, who use body language as expected, who reciprocate in communication, who navigate social interactions gracefully, and who conceal or suppress their stimming behaviour are often the people who, behind closed doors, struggle deeply with the challenges that come with being autistic. Not to make this all about me but I'm high masking, I'm reasonably smart, and I have been completely fascinated with communication and social interaction since childhood so if you met me in your day-to-day life or at a social function (depending on how much effort I'm putting in) you probably wouldn't notice that I'm autistic. Too many psychiatrists and professionals didn't see it in me either. Put me next to a solid third of the faculty at your university of choice and I'd say that you would notice more indications of autism in them than you would me. But with that said, I face significant challenges due to being autistic that can make day-to-day living extremely difficult. Also I will 100% be constantly: chewing gum, cracking my knuckles often, rubbing the tips of my fingers together or running them against certain textures, and my toe or knee will be jiggling. But because I'm not rocking in the fetal-position or flapping my hands, it isn't obvious that I'm stimming in four different ways so I'm able to socially pass. But if I spent 30 seconds flapping my hands? That's immediately going to make people think that I'm "more severe" or "lower functioning". Hence why that framing is frowned upon.
