For those who don’t remember, Rittenhouse is a divisive figure who is held up as a hero in right-wing circles after a 2020 incident where he drove to Kenosha, WI to protect local businesses

Disgusting article.

[-] axont@hexbear.net 76 points 2 years ago

This is like saying OJ Simpson was a famous NFL player who had minor legal issues with an ex-wife

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 60 points 2 years ago

Divisive figure is a funny way to say murderer

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 31 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

a-guy was a divise figure mainly remembered for his contributions to the field of mathematics and minor legal issues with the US government

[-] Z_Poster365@hexbear.net 22 points 2 years ago

He's controversial for his efforts to protect the environment and hold the government accountable

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 48 points 2 years ago

to protect local businesses

I'm in awe of this neoliberal bootlickery framing. LIB

[-] Rom@hexbear.net 40 points 2 years ago

where he drove to Kenosha, WI

Inaccurate. His mommy drove him.

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 37 points 2 years ago

Yeah, the article itself sucks ass, I probably should've linked a better one, I just grabbed this quickly.

they ended up on the same bill as alt-right broke-ass poster boy and murderer Kyle Rittenhouse.

I have to admit, it’s a bit odd to hear a hardcore band saying that they simply don’t get involved in politics, especially one that says that they’re dedicated to “the culture of hardcore.” Hardcore comes from punk, punk is far-left, end of discussion. But even putting that aside, at least it’s good to hear that someone acknowledges that being opposed to the right-wing canonization of Kyle Rittenhouse isn’t politics, it’s just morality.

[-] MonsterRancher@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

No one get mad at me.

But politics is morality and morality is politics. This is still doing that thing where it treats politics as some team sport lower on a hierarchy of needs below morality.

Edit - also super weird when Metal Injection is way more Rittenhouse/right-leaning than Metalsucks in this instance when I thought they were owned/run by the same company/group/person.

both-sides

(note: I know nothing about the ownership and proprietorship of either of these websites)

Also politics and morality are objectively two distinct things but they heavily dialectically interact and inform. Morality is an idealism, politics is a materialism, in the dialectical relationship that exists in the interdependent unity-of-opposites of ideas and substance (in its theory and action). Morality can also be personal as much as it can be societal and communal. It's an idealism, it's subjective. Politics is the objective relationships of power between people. One's morality might inform how they engage with politics, and how political circumstances affect them, hence the dialectical relationship; but it remains its own subjectivity in relation to material politics. This isn't to say morality isn't important for an individual to cultivate, Lenin wrote (or Krupskaya relayed) his thoughts on Communist Morality. Because it is an impulse and framework within peoples ideals which can inform or impel them to take part in great (or terrible) things. But they are distinct, morality and politics.

Fr. Hardcore is just metal without the racism. And better pits.

[-] CocteauChameleons@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

I was just at Fall of Troy and Number 12 Looks Like You concert the other day and they had the palestine flag up front

[-] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

Getting punched in the head is better? Hate racism but hardcore pits are terrible

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

When you put it that way...

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

Sore Throat said it and were right, death to capitalist hardcore. Hardcore is pretty far removed from punk at this point and is rige with chuds or just people who would have been nu metal guys if it was late 90s

[-] Des@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

there is a big schism forming in hardcore right now. luckily there are far fewer right leaning/chud shit bands but there are a gross number of "apolitical" outfits. most of the "revivalcore" bands that are bringing back the sound of the late 90s/early 00s are staunchly leftist (led by Knocked Loose).

only one "revivalcore" band stands out as right wing and that's Kubali Khan TX. sucks too because i used to like them because they had some good anti-cop songs. turns out they are just lolbertarians but their frontman is friends with a fucking nazi so not a good look. so fuck em

[-] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

it’s a bit odd to hear a hardcore band saying that they simply don’t get involved in politics, especially one that says that they’re dedicated to “the culture of hardcore.”

It's not that odd to me, just looking at that picture you can tell they're the ”MY CREW 4 LIFE WE KICK UR ASS” type of hardcore who aren't exactly known for their enlightened political opinions.

Supporters of Rittenhouse like to point to the backgrounds of the men that Rittenhouse killed, particularly the sex crimes that Joseph Rosenbaum was convicted of in 2002, while his detractors argue that Rittenhouse was unlikely to know anything about that when he killed those men.

I'm sure the author would argue unsuccessfully that including this bit was totally necessary to inform the reader, but I would argue that including it totally informed me as to which way the author slants on Rittenhouse.

so-true Presenting all viewpoints is objective reporting!

[-] nohaybanda@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

Knowing his opinions would certainly change my behaviour were I to meet the author and [REDACTED]

[-] GenXen@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

were I to meet the author and ~~[REDACTED]~~ [RITTENHOUSE]

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 9 points 2 years ago

Throwing a grenade into a crowd of random people is likely to put shrapnel in at least one criminal. smuglord

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 35 points 2 years ago

many US troops have PTSD from doing murders

Kyle has PTSD from doing murders

We're doing a festival in support of murderers!

buddy-christ

[-] buh@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

Why is a music festival bringing him on at all? Does he have a band I’ve never heard of? Guns are not a musical instrument

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 29 points 2 years ago

Florida

Christian band

Pro-Troop

It's a little puzzling, but it's clear the people behind this thing have am Agenda™️

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

SMDH when did music become political? Keep politics out of my songs!

[-] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

Songs should only be about kickin' ass for the US of A and drinking piña coladas

[-] Eco@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

i mean i've seen comedians and podcasts on festival lineups before. hell, jeremy corbyn was on the glastonbury lineup one year

[-] geese_feces@hexbear.net 23 points 2 years ago

Evergreen Terrace, American Hollow, Southpaw, and Let Me Bleed dropped out.

So now the highest billed band on the lineup is the Christian metalcore band "What We Seek".

[-] Des@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

so glad Evergreen Terrace rolled out. love that fucking band.

[-] Des@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

ooops you just lost your headlining band

Evergreen Terrace stays winning cat-vibing

also check them out if you like a fusion of skate punk and thrash metal

[-] Barx@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

Organizations and projects intended to support people with PTSD or disabilities are often really about supporting kid killing veterans that feel bad about seeing their kid killing friends die and being afraid they might die so they wouldn't be able to kill more kids.

[-] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

Booked him to do what? Be fat and stupid? They could've booked me for that!

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago

I sincerely hope he has an accident while cleaning his gun and he blows his face off and has to live in a Johnny Get Your Gun mind prison for the rest of his shitheaded life. Stupid evil little gremlin boy.

[-] REgon@hexbear.net 7 points 2 years ago

I mixed up Kyle Rittenhouse and Kyle Gass and was confused for a moment
