For me:

  1. Super Robot Wars (Gameboy)

  2. Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Holy Demon War (Mouthful, PS2)

  3. Gundam Battle Assault (PSX)

I love Super Robot Wars, it's the perfect you got peanut butter in my chocolate game. It mixes a dozen different giant mecha ips into a tactical roleplaying game.

Berserk on the ps2 is awesome. It takes the musou formula but imo makes it something much more engaging, plus it faithfully retells the best arc of the manga.

GBA is a great 2D fighter by natsume, carries on the tradition of the gundam wing game for the super famicom but this time on a 32bit system.

Blasphemy, Gundam Battle Assault 2 has all the main G-Gundam cast in a fighting game!

Is that newish Berserk musou game any good?

Rankings for me:

  1. Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front (PS2) - Rainbox Six style tactical shooter, Gundam edition!
  2. .hack//(INFECTION/MUTATION/OUTBREAK/QUARANTINE) (PS2) - These aged like trash, gameplay-wise, but they were super cool for their time. Great execution for a multimedia franchise
  3. Robotech: Battlecry (PS2, XBOX, GC) - They nailed the art style and the game was pretty fun, even if it's got the Harmony Gold stink on it

Shoutout to the mishmash of all the weird Japan-only anime tie-in ROMs I played in the mid-2000s: Magic Knight Rayearth (SFC/SNES), Sailor Moon (Sega Genesis), Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (SFC/SNES) come to mind, but I'm sure there's others

Also, shoutout to Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, which nails the anime OP aesthetic with its attract mode

From what I remember, the reviews around the Berserk musou game were kinda mid, but the game journalism industry tends to hate on the subgenre so idk. The latest One Piece musou game is supposed to be very good though

I've heard the same but that comic is toooooooooo long for me to want to start. That, and Oda still being buddies with Watsuki doesn't help lol.

Oda keeps flipping a coin to decide if he should write a really good chapter today or do some insane shit. I hate that the mf can't just write about cool pirates, and instead decides to say something shitty or draw nami with bigger booba and legs that go ALLLLLL the way up

One Piece is very good but I can't blame anyone for not wanting to approach it lol. It reads very quickly but it's still 1000+ chapters. Also I hadn't heard about him being buddies with that sicko - I'm disappointed but not surprised considering the nature of the manga industry...

Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front (PS2) - Rainbox Six style tactical shooter, Gundam edition!

Great game, but I only ever borrowed it from my cousin and didn't get very far. The mission to scout out the gundam and white base was a brick wall.

I still suck at the game as an adult lol. It works with the source material for me in the same way sucking at TIE Fighter does - bad guys punching in the clock to get wrecked

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

It's still a cool game it's the closest we've got to real mobile suit tactical combat.

Trying to pick ones that are games directly based on anime.

Pokemon Yellow
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - Arcade/PS1/DC
Yugioh Capsule Monsters - PS2

.Hack games are kinda' multimedia with the anime, not sure if they count.

I'd count them since it's based on a show.

I think the games were supposed to be the "main" part of it, but they were bundled with OVA episodes! They totally count.

Battle for Bikini Bottom

Damn a spongebob anime game that isn't garbo?!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Yes, don't listen to the haters.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Every time there's a steam sale I think about getting Kakarot, but I'm in the middle of watching DBZ and know it'd just give me Dragon Ball fatigue

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Probably a smart idea. The story is literally just the DBZ story and some random sidequests.

Do you get to do driver's ed with Piccolo?

  1. Not sure if it counts but Persona 4 (despite its faults). Kickass music, the villain and the first suspect are both fashy chanbrains, and there’s a bit of wish fulfillment in being able to have and make friends

  2. Obligatory Dragon Ball drop, but I like Xenoverse 2.

  3. Had fun with Pokemon yellow as a kid. Even though I just copy/pasted red’s team from hgss because I wanted to role play as red.

Obligatory Dragon Ball drop, but I like Xenoverse 2.

I wonder if my laptop can handle that or 1, I'd love to give it a whirl. There's also a DB mmorpg that has a private server up and running.

I love XV2 for the fanservice slop but I'm also mark for dragon ball. My main complaint is the terrible monetization and nickle-and-diming of character & move expansions but that was mostly before I learned how easily you can mod stuff in and not get banned.

Does Pokémon yellow count?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Sure, it's technically based on an anime!

  • Dragon Ball Fighterz
  • One Piece Pirate Warriors 4
  • SD Gundam Generations Genesis

This list is just shit I'm a mark for that's fun. Xenoverse 2 would go instead of Fighterz if I wasn't a mark for fgc shit too.-

SD Gundam Generations Genesis

I saw that G Generation Overworld got translated for the psp and my laptop can emulate that.

G Generation Overworld
