Because the government can’t afford a book of matches?

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago

Not in this economy

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Like the "Jewish space lasers" bullshit that Margarine Traitor Greed mentioned.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

If we had space lasers, we’d use them in Ukraine.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Jews won't use their space lasers to help Ukraine because Ukraine is full of Nazis. /s

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Flawless logic.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

But that would put the US into direct conflict with Russia. Military lasers are definitely a thing

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

They don’t exist at the magnitude you think. We don’t have space lasers that can attack ground targets yet and probably never will. At best they can jam certain systems like drones.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I mean we could, but we’d secretly have to get four battery modules each the size of the international space station into orbit.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Only for solid state lasers. There are other kinds though. But they would still be fairly impractical and heavy to have in orbit. And wouldn't be good for much more than one shot

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think you underestimate current military capabilities which are decades beyond public knowledge tech.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Physics does have some solid limits though. The amount of power required for lasers to travel miles through atmosphere is massive.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

But if it's the same space lasers they are using on Maui that nobody seems to be able to detect it's source, then wouldn't the same thing apply if they used it on Russia?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Hey, those are real! /s

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 year ago

I know this will fall on deaf ears, but the best thing we can do is stop amplifying these people by posting these stories and upvoting them.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Everything is a conspiracy since the internet became a “news” source

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I think the same people would think the same stuff. Just now they travel faster and wider.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think bouncing ideas off of each other on social media does drive them further into the rabbit hole, and leads them to ideas they might not have gotten to otherwise.

One person starts saying things as a joke or as a griefer and people run with it.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's how the flat Earth thing got its resurgence online. It was fucking joke that got taken way too far and now has "followers" that believe it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Trump too. The_Donald started that way.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You Can't Stump the Trump (Volume 4).

It was all fun and games and centipedes and 420 sniper headshot dubstep memes. And then shit got real.

And posting on the internet is like shouting into the void, except more people can hear idiots online than on their shitty AM broadcast.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Yeah, just because they're posting it on Twitter instead of ranting on street corners doesn't make it a news story.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Which only proves how stupid they are. There is no need for lasers if a simple cigarette but thrown away carelessly is sufficient.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Or a downed power line, how hard is that to believe

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

And when they finally do determine the cause, nobody will ever believe them.

Edit I want to say too, that photo is heartbreaking. It's NOT a black and white photo. I zoomed in on a little spot of red... it was a stop sign.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The wall of flame was reaching speeds of 80 mph.

That's unfathomable to me.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There are reports that it was downed power lines. It was super windy which is what also caused it to move so rapidly and with such ferocity.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, I saw that video tonight, would not be surprising!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I hate to make the comparison with this photo, but all I can think of with the stop sign in the middle is the scene with the little girl in the red coat in Schindler's List.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

oh shit, man that just messed with my head so bad

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The fact that my mom actually believes this 💀💀💀

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My mom thinks Biden’s a robot. So…

[–] [email protected] -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's ridiculous, an AI would be way more coherent than Biden.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Ignorance is a disease. The curiosity for education is the only answer. But our Prussian inspired educational system and capitalism doesn’t give us the tools to even begin to combat it.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They said the same thing about Canada's fires 👍

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

It's amazing they haven't come up with a more practical way of starting fires.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

The government do not have those types of lasers.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Because the Jews operate them?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago

Yes, that's the crazy part of this, the idea that the government doesn't have access to those types of lasers.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 year ago

That’s what they want you to think.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes but conspiracy theorists think that radio waves create atomic structures, so I think it's pretty clear they'll believe any old nonsense.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Jesus fuck.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Republicans only attack America to make Biden look bad. So they should start there.
