Kilograms of plastic toys I'd love to post here lol. I miss my gundams and transformers. The transformers toys were PEAK

I did manage to get some gen 1 bionicles back tho

Oh fuck! My best friend had those exact bionicles when I was a kid!

I was a Beast Wars fan, although I was too young when I watched it to remember much of the plot other than Megatron saying "Yeeees" a lot, and thinking Tigon was cool.

I had this Beast Wars Transmetal toy when I was a single digits old.

I wish I still had it, but unfortunately he was one of my favourite toys and eventually after many years his legs fell off and he was thrown out by my parents.

That looks very cool. But its not as cool as my beyblade.

Another toy my bestie had.

Wait... ARE YOU MY CHILDHOOD FRIEND?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Only the coolest millenial kids had these toys. My childhood friend didn't have any toys was mostly a gamer, we would play Smash TV over and over and then I'd watch him play those weird duke nukem ps1 tomb raider style games. He also introduced me to tekken.

Did your childhood friend have the coolest toy though?

The pokemon gold promo cards from burger king?

If not. I'm simply too cool to have been your childhood friend

Oh and geomag

I think I'm a bit too old for this toy discussion but i want to join in anyway and this piece reminds me of the crossfire commercial.

Youll get caught up in the.... Crossfire!

Crossfire... Crossfire

CROSSFIIIYYYERRR!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

When I was 12 I saw younger kids on the school bus being into beyblade and for some reason turning spinning tops into another pokemon knockoff was what made me give up.the whole thing for years

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You must've been pretty young alright, because there's no character called Tigon in Beast Wars, lol.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Tigertron? I can't remember

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Tigatron was one of the two cat-related characters along with Cheetor, yeah.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yeah, this guy!

He was a hippy who lived away from the others

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He also had a romance with Airazor, the female bird Transformer (that became an accidental gay romance in Japan since Airazor was male there), and they got abducted by the Vok and combined into Tigerhawk, who was around for like two episodes.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

You mean they... Became multiple genders? sicko-yes

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh shot oh fuck, I still have ALL my Beast Wars toys at my parents place in mostly pretty good condition, plastic Tony bullets bagged and also the cards from the boxes. I should get those hauled over here, it's like two 1x4 feet wide and like 3 foot deep plastic totes. I've gotta have like 50 of em or so. I could probably make money off em, but I'm pretty sure once opened ill wanna display them instead.

I am so jealous of you right now

I had the exact same Victory Gundam Mk 2 back when I was first into Gundam as a teen lol. I also had like a million of the action figures from the UC and G Gundam shows. I think my mom gave them away to some poor Burmese refugee kids during the period when Gundam SEED was so bad it made me quit watching anime for like 15 years lol

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Gundam seed is bad? Is this a common view? Im a gigantic anime fan (but i don't do giant robots) and i don't know much about the Gundam subset. Is seed dramatically different than other gundam series? Why do you hate it?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's a pretty common view, especially among the kind of Gundam fandom you would find around places like this. It is super popular, though, and sells a lot of toys in Japan.

It's just not written nearly as well as many of the other series. It's an alternate universe that has a similar setup to the original show, but it doesn't do anything particularly interesting with the scenario or characters. The main character, Kira Yamato, is that specific kind of special boy who always can solve the problem with no issue. That, and it's one of the early digipaint shows from the 2000s that just don't look great.

(but i don't do giant robots)

Any particular reason for this? I generally recommend the original Mobile Suit Gundam or Turn A Gundam for people who want to dip their toe into it. Both shows have pretty compelling character dramas that even people who aren't into the giant robot angle can enjoy.

If you were going to watch only one Gundam show (or only one mecha show in general), I'd make it Turn A Gundam. It's probably my favorite anime hands down (and is a standalone series - you don't really need to see other Gundams unless you like recognizing robots from other shows).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Any particular reason for this?

Hmm, well I've never evaluated my avoidance. Let's see...I have watched a couple anime that had them in it and something about them just bugs me. Maybe i just don't like war stories in general, which the mecha genre is a subset of generally. But i also tried Fullmetal Panic because I'm a romance fan and i bounced off hard.

If you forced me to think on it further? it's probably that i just don't think giant robots are cool (I know, i know, sacrilege haha). It probably sounds crazy that a giant kickass robot doesn't add anything exciting to the table for me, but they just... dont?

I tried! I don't know if i answered you though.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nah, that's valid. I took interest in Star Wars at an early age, so space wars just work for me I guess shrug-outta-hecks

I'd double down on the Turn A Gundam recommendation if you find yourself looking to try something outside what you usually watch! It's still a war story, but it does things in a pretty unique way.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I like unique, and im not really hooked on anything this season so i might give "turn a" a shot. i will let you know how it goes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Little known fact, both Gs in G Gundam stand for "gay".

Gundams are the absolute bomb. I love everything about their design and I dont think any other mechs have come close.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Armored Trooper Votoms has some pretty cool designs, but that's cheating since Okawara also did mechanical design for that show lol

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Just became a Gundam Guy this year and it has made my parents Christmas shopping way easier. I want normal stuff and silly star trek crap which is hard to find cheap ans hard to identify in thrift stores out of package if not a fan. Gundam has KNICK KNACKS
