Anime music video

[–] [email protected] 22 points 7 months ago (8 children)

This is one of my constant frustrations on Lemmy too. People constantly dropping abbreviations with no explanation, assuming their cultural background is universal.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah it's a CFoL for me too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Fucks a cfol. You just pulled that out your ass didn't you

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Definitely a ptoya post

[–] [email protected] 19 points 7 months ago (5 children)

AMV has been around for years now. Plus, this was likely posted to a community that knows what an amv is and never intended for here

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

The guy who posted it here should have expanded the initialism

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (2 children)

While years is technically correct, we're at the "decades" mark on amvs

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I don't know if I've ever heard the initialism AMV or not (though I've watched plenty of them), but even not knowing what it was it was pretty easy to figure out from context (though i thought "animated" instead of "anime", but close enough anyway)

Some acronyms and initialisms, I don't really get why they're so hard for people, especially in context

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

They're not, people just like to complain and have things handed to them. In that order.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I can remember them from the early YouTube days, but I wasn't 100% certain if it had been decades yet >!and I didn't want to think about how old I'm getting!<

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

If it makes you feel better, the oldest AMV is from over 40 years ago

If you're older than that... Sorry

Yeah, it's like these foreign language posts. Don't they know not everyone speaks German?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ssh don't say that or all the Americans will rush in shouting "You're welcome"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

YOU'RE WELCOME!

I don't know what came over me, but I hope you feel grateful.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It is wild that this post about a harmless abbreviation that refers to cringey (but endearing to me) narrow slice of early-mid 2000s internet culture got this reaction out of you. Something that could be ignored or looked up.

Be it Lemmy or the communities you stumble upon, but perhaps some introspection about how you respond and interact with the internet could use a revisit.

Not cromulent enough.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Sometimes this is totally fair, but I think any abbreviation that instantly comes up on google is fair game. IIRC, TIL, AMV, BRB, IRL, IKR, etc.

plugs "what is AMV" into DDG

Answer received after 4 seconds of reading

I'm sorry, but this is a skill issue.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Now I'm embarrassed. Did you plug "what is AMV" into a rapper from Michigan, or a guided missile?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago (1 children)

If this isn't a lesson in situational irony, I don't know what is!

I'm using DDG to mean duckduckgo. Google would've made more sense, but I do not like google. Sorry for the confusion!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

Ah, makes sense why google didn't want to tell me what it stands for lmao

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

It just isn't the same without videos of Sasuke with a black and white filter and all of the film grain

[–] [email protected] 12 points 7 months ago

All the Linkin Park

[–] [email protected] 10 points 7 months ago

Frou Frou "Must be Dreaming": mid-level song

RahXephon: mid-level anime

Koopiskeva, "Euphoria": god-tier AMV

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago (2 children)

I mean, my initial introduction to Nightwish was the Wishmaster Misheard Lyrics video. And for a while I always looked for that video to hear that song. Not too weird to do it like that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I fully believe there shall come a day when fewer people alive know what Coldplay is than remember the lyrics to Fallen Kingdom.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Same scenario for me, but for Six by All That Remains. The misheard lyrics were better than the real lyrics.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

That's a mood, yeah.

Master!
A dentist!
Hard porn!
Steven seagull!

Downfall by trust company on an amv someone made of FF8

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

It really does! It's not even the same if it's on a different website!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

This is how I remember amv's - https://youtu.be/Ce9nusNhj_E?si=2tKUTVh2mNCmJbmv

In hindsight it's not that special but I use to watch this vid on my incredibly small screen MP4 player religiously throughout high school 😅

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This is still true. The only way I ever listen to in the end is the half life animation.

[–] FilterItOut 3 points 7 months ago

That and the slow version from the MtG promo video for the ~~nicol bolas fight in ravnica~~ war of the spark.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And then there's me who still wonders why nobody ever did a Dragonball AMV for Rainbow's Power or The Kinks' Powerman.

Wanted to make some myself but I could never find the time or the ~~energy~~ power.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Or the Dragonball AMV for "Triangle Man"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

The Ed Edd n' Eddy Reel Big Fish amv got me into ska

Holy fucking shit I found it

Big flashing lights warning

AND POOL PARTY

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Yes. Pokemon - Bitches (Mindless Self Indulgence) is the only way I can listen to it. https://vimeo.com/120635260

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago

Since this is now a "share your favorite AMV" thread, my humble contribution: Hold Me Now set to Princess Tutu: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9197GTl1ASg

Dood, the NGE version of Chemicals Between Us was fire. I'll fight someone over that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I preferred Breathe for NGE (here's a remastered version)

Chemicals Between Us I discovered for Vision of Escaflowne

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Asuka will forever be the frontman of Rammstein for me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Till's proper anime-girl-sona is Mariemaia Khushrenada.

I once waited nearly half an hour for that video to load as a Quicktime file over AOL dial-up.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Sometimes monaural is ok

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Damn, this brought up some memories.

I can't believe my GOTO amv jam is still on youtube! https://youtube.com/watch?v=z9XkY84MUls&t=0&feature=youtu.be

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I must've watched Galaxy Bounce dozens of times. Never occurred to me to look up the song (Andy Hunter - Lifelight).
