Does anyone know where Jaden was going with this? Like I get that the guy is crazy but maybe the intent was introspection, like asking "if a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound?"

He doesn't think, therefore he isn't?

my guess is when you see a diagram of light hitting your eye and they explain that the image is really upside down due to refraction and your brain fixes it. then you see your stupid face in a mirror and wonder why it isnt upside down.

Then you wonder why it's flipped left to right instead

It's not flipped left to right, but inverted along your axis of vision, which is equivalent to an inversion left to right and an 180 degree rotation. What's interesting is that your eye chooses that interpretation, rather than the actual inversion, or a vertical inversion (you can see a vertical inversion without a rotation with a ceiling mirror, but rotate that upside down image around the left-right axis and you'd get a normal mirror image). Probably because people spin all the time, but they don't often flip or somersault, and we're mostly symmetrical left to right.

It's the kind of shit you come up with on shrooms. An important part of that is realizing that not all the ideas you come up with on shrooms are worth spouting to the world.

i do. it’s pretty straightforward to understand i don’t know why it’s so confusing to people.

You're the only person here who claims to know, this doesn't bode well.

I feel kinda bad for wills children. Imagine you are in front of the whole world while growing up. Plus you get groomed to be a "star" so from the start your values and worldview are skewed.

All of us did and sad stupid shit while growing up. That's part of the process. But it wasn't broadcasted.

That said I still think being that rich is a crime against humanity and those people should give away most of their money.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I agree, yeah. I'm sure I pondered stupider shut when I was a teenager, but it wasn't in front of the world.

Of course, now, thanks to social media, everyone is in front of the world all the time.

I don't understand how fake eyes could make mirrors fake. There are lots of people who have fake eyes and mirrors still work.

I suppose he might be working from the assumption of hard solipsism, but in that case why would you worry about the mirrors being real when you're already assuming every observation of reality is a hallucination?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Consider the phrase "be real with me" colloquially means "be honest with me". Also "real talk", "your real self", etc.

How can mirrors be honest if our eyes aren't honest?

Kid wasn't wrong, in fact, was quite right. People are in denial about their outward appearances never mind other things) all the time. People with anorexia see themselves as overweight when they may actually be dangerously underweight. People think they're ugly when they're not. (Conversely, may think they're really hot about when they're not.)

This is a way of thinking that simply would never have occurred to me; thank you.
