Imo the speed of the language isn't that important for the types of things you build on web. You can shoot yourself in the foot using JavaScript (with or without React) and you can shoot yourself in the foot with any other language. If you architect a good React app, you can deliver a great user experience. I'm sure there is some web use case that genuinely requires insane performance that you shouldn't use React for. But for most projects, you'll be fine.

I think I will wear a mask next time to see if that helps. I wasn’t sure if it is the plane, or that when I fly I happen to be traveling to further, more different places (e.g. bigger time difference, more different weather, food, etc).

[-] moseschrute@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I was considering that! I don’t really take anything regularly, but any supplement recommendations for the week prior?

Did that alone solve it, or is that just part of the solution?

Almost every time I fly somewhere, I get sick, and it kinda ruins every vacation ever. I’m not sure if it’s the germs on the airplane (causation), or the time zone difference affecting my sleep (correlation). Maybe a combination of both? Last trip, it hit me about 3 days in.

I wouldn’t say my drinking/sleeping habits are that different on vacation compared to my regular life. Is this a common thing people experience, or time to see a doctor?

I desperately wanna enjoy a vacation sickness free and then return to work refreshed instead of sick.

I’m a little biased, but you should try blorp. I’m the dev lol. No hashtag support yet, but I would be interested in adding this soon. I have to check what’s possible with the PieFed API. Blorp currently supports, creating polls, voting in polls, reacting to posts and comments, and post flairs (labels?).

I can generate ideas way faster than I can actually work on those ideas, so please rank which of these you want to see most:

  • Expand post to load more types on content directly in Blorp (e.g. redgifs were added recently)
  • Less comments moving/shifting around as they load (most noticeable on posts with 100+ comments)
  • Fix Android full screen video controls getting cut off (if you've seen this bug)
  • The groundwork to allow viewing posts that aren't in communities, which could maybe (no promises) make mbin possible
  • Comment jump button, which jumps to the next top level comment
  • Translate Blorp into other languages
  • Continue adding support for nsfw content viewing
  • Streamline login experience
  • Edit alt text in posts and images in comments
  • Edit community sidebar in Blorp
  • Create communities in Blorp
  • Promote moderators in Blorp
  • Or anything else you wanna add

My time is limited, and some of these could send me on a 1+ month journey which would delay other work. Choose wisely

I'm laying the groundwork that will allow you to use different accounts in different tabs. That wasn't really the intention of the work I was doing, but it turned out to be a happy accident.

You can try it out using this experimental build:

Let’s say you click on a NSFW post on home tab, a community, etc, should it unblur the post? Currently you have to click the “show nsfw” button. If you open the post, it requires a second click.

I’m thinking about making it so it unblurs when you open the post. The exception would be if someone direct links you to the post. The I will still require you click “show nsfw”.

If you agree it should unblur, then what should happen when you return to home, the community, etc? Should it reapply the blur or remain unblured in the feed of multiple posts?

This site will also serve as a rough roadmap as well as a way to share the links to download Blorp. If you wouldn't mine looking at the "Feature Matrix" section and let me know:

  1. What is missing
  2. What needs to be corrected
  3. How it could be better organized

Whatever you ask to be added to the feature matrix is more likely to be added to Blorp.

My goal is to make the feature matrix all green checkmarks. Thanks!

It's been pretty quiet around here. I had a pretty slow January working on Blorp, but I found more motivation in February. So I'm back at it.

A few Blorp experimental builds I'm currently working on (experiments are web only):

Depending on when you're seeing this, I may or may not have already merged these into https://blorpblorp.xyz/. Once it's merged there, it's in the pipeline for Android and iOS.

Let me know if you like this format where I show you working examples of what I'm building.

First off, looks like a lot of new people joined the community, so welcome! Let me know if you need anything.

I wanted to get some early feedback on the new Explore (previously called communities) page.

Note: This comparison only really works if you're viewing on web.

This is what the update looks like and this is what it previously looked like

Sorry this took me so long, but you can now manage post and comment reports from the inbox, but only on https://blorpblorp.xyz/ for now. I don't moderate many communities, so if anyone here is an active mod, I would appreciate some help testing the feature. If that goes well, we can roll this out to the native iOS and Android apps soon.

Happy holidays everyone!

Edit: Lemmy only for now, as PieFed doesn’t support reading post/comment reports via the API yet. But I will try and get that in very soon
