A few weeks back, this grocery store set out these plant racks that essentially blocked the walkway, except for a small strip running parallel to the curb (only one person at a time could pass through, as you can see).

At that time, I helped a senior lady who was using a walker to get through it, because she could have easily fallen off the curb if the wheel slipped over the edge.

So I let the store management know that it was dangerous and they needed to give people more space.

Today, I noticed that they put a skid down, completely blocking the narrow path.

This forces people to walk between the plant racks, which is even more narrow. Coupled with the fact that some of the plants are put on the ground (lazy customers??), so you actually can't pass without some major maneuvering.

Someone at the store surely must realize how bad of an idea this is. Or is doing it out of spite.

And to make matters worse, behind where this photo is taken is plenty of open space to put those plant racks. I know this because there used to be a bike rack, but it was removed and never replaced... 😡

There's a new radio station in town that bills itself as "commercial-free and member-supported." It appeared suddenly on a channel that used to be a college station. There are no live DJs, all the self-ads are generic corpo-sounding crap, and they play the same top 40s as every other generic corpo station in town.

Now, they've started a membership drive in the fake hopes of appearing like a grassroots station. The infuriating part is that we have a legitimate indie station (partially publicly funded) that they're trying to steal money/contributions from.

It's obviously a corporate ploy to destroy the current commercial-free station while replacing it with a fake one that will just turn into another soulless corporate station.

if OOTL: these scam sites have been a thing for ages and shows some bs code on your screen like its doing something and then requires "human verification", making you enter your personal information. (and surprise, you don't get the gems or whatever you wanted)

5-minute oil change is a lie. The car ahead of me has been in there for over half an hour. I cannot leave because there are cars behind me, blocking me in. I think this lady has seen more filters than an AC repairman.

Update: Car ahead of me took 50 minutes. I pulled into the bay and sat for 10 minutes. They did nothing and I finally left.

I noticed this for a longer time but I just thought MSN flooded the web with its shit. It didn't came to my mind it is actually duckduckgo trying to shove these msn links into my face...

I guess this is similar to google amp links, just stealing the content of other websites.

It annoys me big time, -msn doesn't seem to help

As I was looking for whole grain ramen options, I kept running across these comparison pages that looked suspiciously similar. Are any of these folks real? How would I tell? Not sure what to make of the sorority one.

I hate that, in addition to endless Amazon results, we have to deal with these (AI?) results, too.

Inside it says that I must reply within 10 days if there are any changes to my info. Failure to do so could result in the cancellation of a medical supplies grant.

Fortunately, the info is correct, but holy hell, I can't imagine the BS that someone would have to go through if they "failed" to reply because of this delay.

I'm currently trying to get in better shape and to that end have started dieting and cycling in my local area. For motivation, I've decided to try to 'virtually' cycle from John O'Groats (henceforth JOG) in the north of Scotland to Land's End (LE) in the south of England.

To do this, I measure how far I cycle each day (locally) and record my progress, which I then use to map where I would be on the route Google Maps recommends for cycling (I'm handwaving altitude comparisons because it's just for fun).

Ok, so - Maps says the recommended cycling route from JOG to LE is 965 miles. Fine. I've covered 21.1 miles so far (I've only just started and am not very fit).

Now, on the full 965 mile route, that 21.1 miles gets me to a small village called Haimer. However, if I ask Maps to plot me a route from JOG to Haimer, Maps says it's only 18.7 miles.

I've tried the same thing with other towns on the route, and the same is true there too - there's a roughly 10% disparity, even though the route being plotted is identical. A few yards here or there I could understand, but a 10% difference?? FFS.

The claim has a non linked URL where they compare the performance of a core i3 6th gen from a decade ago (presumably with 4gb ram) with a core ultra 5 just out (presumably with quadruple the RAM)

Chrome is one of the first things I disable on my Android devices, and I hate the idea of signing up for any accounts just to access local files.

But Canon welcomed me with a big surprise, and a fuck you, too!

I wanted to buy something second-hand. Unfortunately, Facebook Marketplace is the shit where I live. So I thought I could quickly register, contact the seller, and delete my account afterwards.

However, I refuse to participate in this insanity. Video selfie my ass, Facebook.

There's clearly an implied indirect meaning there. Also I reverse searched the image, and apparently the middle red X is the symbol of a far-right organization? At least that's the first result.

Did anyone else get something like this?

This is so cursed. I'm not clicking on the ad.

TL;DR: when the technician put hands on my device, disabled NTP (unattended time updates from internet) and locked settings with a password so I'm forced to pay him €50/hour to change the time

The year is 2018: there was a burglary in my building and my SO begged me for an alarm system. Perfect, so I ordered immediately a 3G Arduino shield and some PIR sensors.

WTF is that, you're not going to DIY that shit, right? I want something that works all the time and doesn't require any fiddling, no wireless sensors that go out of battery and you will notice after years. And I don't want flying wires everywhere, call a professional that will run cables in existing conduits

So I searched for a fully wired solution that didn't have any subscriptions/servers/internet/apps yet allow remote control and call police when required (commercial solutions with a certification can directly interface with police) and that with professional installation didn't cost an arm and a leg. And that allows easy change of settings in the future.

The day of install, the technician tells me "give me the sim card" - to which I reply "it's ok I install it later when you're done" but to my dismay he said "no, the system must be bound to the sim card serial number using the installation tool".

Fuck! I totally overlooked this! So i run to the city searching for a company that gives me a reasonably priced IOT sim card and do it immediately. Luckily I found one and I come back in time after a couple hours, he was almost done and I notice that he's not setting it up using the main unit screen, but instead was using his laptop via serial.

"Huh? I thought it could be set via the screen"

"Yes, but via computer I have access to more settings "

And I didn't pay attention to this sentence until now.

I had to remove electricity for a couple hours to install some Shelly relays in the light switches, when I was done the alarm said "RTC error, set time again".

Ah yes, after all those years the battery is dead = dead RTC. It's ok, I take the user manual and see how to change the time, but the menu doesn't show that. Huh? How? The manual states also that it could update via NTP if internet is available or via GSM cell info if no internet is available. Perfect! So I wait for one day and... nothing. Wait a couple more... nothing.

I finally call support: they tell me that if the menu is missing, it's because the tech used their special software over serial to hide time setting and NTP, for "security", as an attacker could disable the alarm by doing a MITM over the NTP and change the time to daytime and get the alarm disable by itself with the timer

Conclusion : I have to pay 50-100 euro to someone come to my house to personally do something as trivial as just change the time

So...yeah. Seems MS, in their endless wisdom has decided to rename their virtual desktop software, called before as "Remote Desktop" (and good luck trying to find issues with that that are not related to the old RDP tool MTSC.exe) to.... "Windows App". Perfect. Now everything will look like everything, and there's no way to ever try to search for help for it. Next in line, I guess they can call it just "App". I'm sure that will help everyone.

  • on the mobile app, comments have links to search for fairly random words within them in YouTube search for no discernable reason
  • the comment box on mobile shows a preview of a comment, but when clicking on the preview it just goes to the top of the comments and the comment you clicked on is now lost
  • YouTube search works terribly and is less than 1/3 actual results
  • searching by upload date only shows around a dozen new videos before it completely stops working
  • searching watch history for terms in video titles almost never works, even if there are lots of videos with said title
  • ambient mode distracts from the video itself and looks pretty bad on Firefox
  • the tracking code when sharing links
  • how some videos have different caption formatting and there is no central way to turn it off for good
  • YouTube thumbnails are big now
  • YouTube recommending me a hundred videos on a topic I'm not interested in after I watch two or three videos on said topic
  • hover autoplay on video thumbnails
  • AI summaries in video descriptions, and AI integrations in YouTube Studio
  • The transcript button is now in the description for some reason
  • YouTube pushing mobile games in their homepage
  • Shorts
  • silently adding forced midroll ads
  • the slight gradient in the progress bar
  • there is no way to search a channel's videos on the mobile app
  • There is no way to turn on All subscription notifications in the mobile app without granting the app notification permissions
  • no more playlists in the sidebar
  • random community posts on the mobile homepage
  • live chat button takes up half the horizontal space of the description for some reason
  • if you have a large amount of subscriptions, it's difficult to navigate through them
