Its day 3 of probably a week long power outage here. The cell towers are overloaded, so watching video is tough. But I can download podcasts when I go to work (yes very cool, still have to do my 100% pointless job during a natural disaster)

I like these podcasts:

  • True Anon
  • Darknet Diaries
  • This American Life (sometimes)
  • Behind the Bastards (sometimes)

I was going to put more here but I did a purge of my subscriptions just now. These are the guys that made it.

I'm not really looking for news/politics podcasts, but feel free to recommend some. IDC.

I like podcasts that tell a story (this american life, darknet diaries) but I stay away from true crime stuff if its about like, ordinary people who got randomly murdered/SA'd.

Please recommend me your favorite podcast, even if its some niche interest you have. I'm bored and I appreciate it.

Hello everyone did you need someone in here being a complete pedant? Here I am!

I would spell this slopperator, not sloperator. Putting only one consonant between O and E makes this read "SLOPE-r-ator", like the slope of a hill. Also, there's precedent, if you have a lot of slop, maybe you're sloppy (two p's).

Sloperator sounds like someone who really likes linear regression.

18+52+37+47+56=210 for China. Each child could pick up to 3 answers. The average number of jobs the Chinese children picked was 2.

For USA/UK the average was about 1. Very few children selected more than one answer.

That's weird. What a weird poll. Were there only 5 possible choices? I would have told you I wanted to be a veterinarian at that age, if I answered at all. (I did not become a vet, I became a failure lmao)

He's talking about getting rid of military members who can't shave due to medical reasons.

context

People with curly hair can have ingrown hairs from shaving. Most people with no shave chits are black.

Don't let him trick you into thinking this speech is just stupid. Its stupid, but he's also trying to give generals plausible deniability to remove minority military members and women.

George Floyd and Trayvon Martin were ordinary citizens living their lives, whose deaths were linked to (and probably caused by) oppression and racism. They never wanted national attention, certainly not for this.

Kirk was a propagandist whose speech contributed to the environment of political divisiveness, bigotry and intolerance. He was a public figure who thrived on the controversy caused by his hateful speech.

I can't upvote this meme, it feels like false equivalence (I agree with the sentiment, though, it just... they don't care if they're being hypocritical. That's their game).

...this is AI generated

  • The green hat which is missing an earhole would smash the ear flat, not come up to a point

  • green hat cat has really short whiskers for just this photo? Why?

  • all cats are missing eyebrow whiskers?

  • there is not a single stray cat hair on the outside of any of the hats

My friend does crochet and a huge problem in the hobby right now are AI slop patterns that are being sold on craft sites that "don't work" because they are AI generated. Its a plague for them, and this looks like an AI "sample image" for one of these patterns. Or, it could be a real pattern with a slop image, but these projects rarely turn out as depicted.

Fellow pronoun users unite

My favourite pronoun is "that". I find it to be quite helpful in many situations. It is often forgotten that "that" is often used as pronoun.

I also enjoy "this", on occasion.

not real

It's from a satire website that is a decade old

"Tankies" made no measurable difference in the 2024 election. There's next to none of them in the USA. Go ahead: ask real people in your offline life what a tankie is, and see if even one single person has even heard that word.

Unless, of course, you're just applying that word to anyone whos not a Republican that's criticizing the dems. Then I suppose you'll find "tankies" everywhere.

It feels like a word that's just being used to divide the left.

Everyone is saying this is propaganda. I think its possible there's an even stupider reason.

Trump is so nakedly easy to manipulate sometimes. This might be the ego fluffing he needs to reverse the ban.

Holy shit. I can't believe I recognize this art.

This shit is ancient, and it was drawn as satire/bait. Nobody is handing out these flyers seriously. This post is rather embarrassing. Satire is dead I guess.

Edit: sources:

Source for text: scroll for text. I don't know where the goat went. This website is a high-effort satire page that hasn't been updated since like 2010. Looks real at first glance but just click around, it's clearly not a real church.

I am the wife.

Unrelated, why aren't there more women in Linux spaces? We'll never get to the bottom of it I fear. I haven't read the comments in this thread yet, I'm sure they're all completely uncontroversial.
