1/30 of the Rhine water near Colonge is massive.

Sorry, but it is 1/30 of the water which flows past Cologne in the Rhine in a year to fill up the entire Garzweiler mine. So basically diverting the Rhine for a bit more then 12 days. I realize that what I wrote was easy to misunderstand.

But the key here is that the alternative is to keep the pumps running forever. Otherwise you get an acid lake with collapsing walls. Obviously keeping the pumps running also causes massive problems. I am sure they find a solution for Berlin as well.

There are a lot of lignite mines, which have been flooded already. During mining ground water is usually pumped out of the mine, to prevent flooding. So if you stop mining and pumping, the mine would flood anyway. However that would also wash out minerals and cause some serious problems on the "shore" of the new lake. So usually it is better to flood it as fast as possible.

The issue is that these mines are among the largest in Europe. Garzweiler as well as Bełchatów. However for Garzweiler we are talking 1/30 of the water the Rhine has near Colonge. It is bad, but certainly possible.

Das ist halt knall harte Realpolitik. Die USA unterstützen damit Alternativen zur kommunistischen Regierung in Kuba, da nur diese Lebensmittel usw. verteilen können.

Vor allem da Tourismus aus den USA auch eine wichtige logische Einnahmequelle wäre und die Touristen sich logischerweise auch mit Kubanern unterhalten würden.

There is more stuff in it. Like as in Germany and Austria not doing it, because of guilt of the Holocaust. So being too critical is seen as a political issue. Poland not doing it, because they really want US support against Russia. The UK, France and Germany being big enough players that they have some actual interest in the Middle East beyond the symbolic, which make going against Israel more problematic.

Just as an example. I see a lot of post comparing the current genocide committed by Israel to the Holocaust. That however is a horrible idea, if you want to convince Germany or Austria to do something against Israel. As in both of them have a historical debt to Jews and that easily translate to Israel as a Jewish state. It therefore means that they "have to" support Israel. It would be much smarter to not deliberately make the connection and if it is brought up, then to talk about that debt being void, as Israel is committing genocide.

Du findest es also richtig, dass die Steuern fürs Autofahren sinken sollen? Den das ist das was hier passiert. E-Autos sind besser als Verbrenner, aber haben immernoch viele Probleme.

This is exactly why they want their name published. Germany only grants asylum for people who are in danger in their home country. Having your full real name published as a deserter is a sure fire way of making sure that is the case for them.

As for housing that is very likely to solve itself. The big one is that we do not have huge migration waves, but otherwise the baby boomers are at an age, where they really start to actually die. That probably means shrinking populations in a lot of European countries, which then leads to lower house prices. Not everywhere, but especially in rural areas.
