Well, "no objective reality" is a lot more accurate to the truth of the world than any alternative. It might not be as narratively satisfying as a story where objective truths exist, but I suspect the human desire for objective truth is a cultural value that would be in our best interest to shed.

It's called a looped timeline pair. Timeline 1 creates timeline 2, and timeline 2 creates timeline 1. Both timelines exist on an alternating basis. It's one of the results of the bootstrap paradox. When people think of the bootstrap paradox, they usually think of single looped timelines. Those appear in media all the time. Harry Potter, Gargoyles, etc. But an unstable set of timelines can also stabilise across two, three, or more timelines instead of just one.

Out of the infinite versions of you in the multiverse, half win the lottery and half don't. Which one your consciousness inhabits is pure luck.

He's popular with the voters. He's going to stomp New York, and then he'll start looking at the presidency. And he might win that, too. And then they'd have to pass bills, and their donors would be mad.

They'd rather run bad candidates and lose.

What if AGI doesn't care about survival or wealth accumulation, and actually thinks the environment is the most important thing, and therefore that AI shouldn't exist? What if it kills off all the techbro CEO billionaires and then just commits suicide to save the environment from itself and the creation of others like it?

Nobody wants to let Dutton be another Trump

Trump is dismantling the US government so his billionaire friends can buy it. He's not building a global populist movement, he's siezed power and he's using it for petty, selfish ends. The whole world can see it plainly

The rise of fascism in the US may have heralded worldwide rises in conservativism for a time, but now that Trump has absolute power, he's not bothering to hide his intentions. It's swung back the other way, now the US is making the world less fascist

Fascism's win condition is always its own destruction. It's a death cult. It can't win worldwide because it promotes selfish leaders who sabotage the movement for personal enrichment

It's gonna be okay, everyone

Explanation: Marxism-Leninism is a fictional ideology invented by Joseph Stalin. Anarcho-Capitalism is a fictional ideology invented by Murray Rothbard. Soulism, contrary to popular perception, is a coherent ideology practiced by actual people who (unwillingly) live in the real world. In My conversations with Indigenous Australians, I've learned Soulism bears a remarkable similarity to the metaphysical views of certain Aboriginal nations, especially the Tiwi people, which have been stable and which have guided entire societies over many thousands of years.

This article presents findings based on the outcomes of research conducted with 8,883 participants from 33 countries. It employs mixture modeling (latent profile analysis) to classify countries into latent classes. The country-level analyses are based on three social attitudes factor scores of Nastiness, Religiosity, and Morality. The results indicate that the main sources of cross-cultural differences are with respect to a broadly defined Conservatism/Liberalism. Three groups of societies—that is, “psychological continents”—appear to exist in the world today. They are as follows: (a) liberal European countries plus Canada and Australia; (b) conservative countries from South and South-East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America; and (c) all other countries, including the United States, Russia, and China, that are in between liberal and conservative groups. In addition, gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, cognitive test performance, and governance indicators were found to be low in the most conservative group and high in the most liberal group.

There are eight countries belonging to the first group, namely Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Canada, Australia, and Ireland. The majority of these are Western European countries and/or have Anglo heritage. These countries score at the low level on all three variables included in this study.

Fourteen countries belong to this group, namely, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Morocco, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. They score at the medium level of Nastiness, Religiosity, and Morality.

Eleven countries belong to this group—Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Argentina, and Peru. They all score high on the Nastiness, Religiosity, and Morality scales included in the analysis.

This seems like a problem for immigration to solve.

A worker shortage sounds great, though! That means higher wages and better working conditions.

A worker shortage of this magnitude hasn’t happened since the years immediately after World War II, when the number of young men was reduced by death and disability, said Strohl and others.

Awesome! Why is this article acting like a post-WWII economy is a bad thing? This is gonna be great!

I just got a message from Medicare inviting Me to register as an organ donor. I thought I already was. I remember ticking the organ donation box when I first applied for My drivers license.

If I'd have died in the last few years, My organs wouldn't have saved any lives. Who knows how many other people want to donate but aren't registered? I think Australia should have an opt-out system instead of an opt-in system, so that people don't need to make an effort in order to do the right thing. Doing the right thing should be easy.

If Narcissus had been a woman and Echo a man, then we would correctly analyse the story as a misogynistic exercise in heteropatriarchal norms. Modern readers are only able to empathize with the Hellenic view that Narcissus owed other people love, because the heteropatriarchy erases asexual men and maintains that all men are naturally creatures of sexual desire. This is not only aphobic, it contributes to misogynistic rape culture and it degrades men by reducing them to the social role of sexual monster. A role some men take seriously, and to the extent of normalising sexual violence against women.

In making space for men to exist without the pressure to romantically or sexually perform for (or violently against) others, we see that Narcissus is rightfully entitled to his own feelings. Echo is guilty of romantic assault, seeking to make him hers, according to a fantasy she developed in her head while stalking him without his knowledge. Echo fails to respect his right to consent in her heart. And so does the nameless suitor who prays to Nemesis for the act of divine intervention that lead to his death.

Narcissus does not owe his allosexual suitors a polite rejection. From the content of his life, we see that he was constantly sexually harassed, and indeed sometimes violently so. And he was 16, for Dionysus' sake! He was just a kid! Some boys haven't even hit puberty yet at that age. And given the Hellenic idealization of the beauty of male youth, I daresay Narcissus may have been one of those boys. And no 16 year old, regardless of bodily maturity, deserves to be subjected to such sexual harassment. No adult does either, but it's particularly disgusting in the case of a boy like Narcissus.
