Humanity: invents writing systems that balance speed, readability, and hand strain, and improves them over the centuries

Scientists: keep releasing studies that writing by hand has numerous benefits over typing

Gamer: why we teach an outdated font to kids

Writing may have some benefits over typing but ultimately, what is the purpose of writing? To communicate! The vast majority of written communication these days is done via typing. Basically the only time I have to write anything in cursive is to sign a document, and even that use case is done via typing more often than not nowadays. Cursive is dead and I couldn't care less.

I actually understand better writing down than typing. You could dictate a full text and I could type it as fast as you talk but would never be able to repeat what you said without reading it back. That’s common amongst typists.

Writing by hand and slowing you down makes absorbing the knowledge way better as you go (e.g. in a class). But again maybe there are better ways to do that now, I dunno.

Yeah, there are plenty of studies showing that writing by hand improves memory retention and speeds up learning. Dude's just stuck at the "why do I need to learn math when there's a calculator in my pocket" level of thinking about education.

Well idk about you, but throughout my education I filled up a lot of notebooks with notes and assignments, and I took plenty of written tests.

There are numerous studies showing that writing by hand improves memory retention and speeds up learning.

There's a superior system of writing by hand that allows you to write faster, have less hand strain, and end up with something that's easier for everyone to read.

Try to connect the dots.

As for how it's useful to you today?

Why do we need PE when the purpose of physical development is to be able to move in space? The vast majority of movement today is done by man made vehicles. Basically the only time you have to move by using your legs is when you're going to the car or the toilet, and even that is being done more often by scooters nowadays. Walking is dead and you couldn't care less.

Now repeat that same reasoning with literally every other school subject...

Funny how both the subject and your analogy happen to be things I recall as useless and traumatic and would gladly part with
