Oliver Tambo, born on this day in 1917, was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.

In 1943, Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, founded the ANC Youth League, with Tambo becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948. The Youth League proposed a change in the tactics of the anti-apartheid movement, advocating boycotts, civil disobedience, strikes, and non-collaboration.

In 1960, Tambo fled South Africa due to political persecution, living in exile in north London for thirty years. From London, he supported and helped organize the ANC in the fight against apartheid from a distance. On December 13th, 1990, Tambo returned to South Africa and was elected National Chairperson of the ANC.

Doing a group project, teammate asks me to look over his part. I take a quick look. It's obviously Chat GPT generated. I tell him he should try to do it himself and only use Chat GPT to format it since he wasn't super familiar with the syntax for the assignment.

He doesn't reply for a day then comes back with a mess that is also very obviously just the result of prompting Chat GPT three times.

I understand using a LLM to help you out if you don't want to go through too much trouble in putting everything in the syntax for the program we're using, but repeatedly trying to get Chat GPT to do the entire thing for you, even when you're told how obvious it is that a human did not write it? yikes

It's honestly an epidemic among college students.

We are gonna have a generation of students who literally can't do their degree shit because ChatGPT isn't the generalized intelligence they think it is.

laziness i know that very well. in my class i was one of the few who actually made a project from scratch (ikik nerd) rest just copied whatever they found on the internet. LLMs just make it easier.

Yeah it's not new at all. The thing that bothers me is him coming to me to ask for me to review it, if you're not gonna bother putting any effort into it at all why make it other people's problem?

Today at the end of my class the TA had to address how apparently a huge portion of the class used Chat GPT to write their one-page essay. It was about a pretty niche topic so you just know the LLM was making shit up too. πŸ€ͺ
