Handheld mega is here! I have a few gaming handheld topics I want to yap about, I'll try to add one a day.

First thing I want to talk about is new to me, and relatively new in general, the DSpico! The DSpico is a new, fully open source flashcart for the Nintendo DS and DSi. The whole stack from the hardware, software, firmware is all freely available for anyone to modify and use. Built with an RP2040 microcontroller, 2 megabytes of flash memory, micro usb port.

So that's cool and all, we love open source projects, but what can it actually do? The basic function, for those who don't know, is to load software off an SD card on old consoles (Homebrew, launchers, and of course games). This lets you keep your entire library on one cartridge, including homebrew games and rom hacks. In addition this is the first flashcart to support DSiWare (downloadable games for the DSi), so you can pop it in a DSi or 3ds and play those games, in addition to the DS library.

Some other cool features. It has one of the lowest power draws of any flashcart, much less then the classic R4 clones. You don't need to charge it, it just takes power from the DS, but it does have noticeably longer playtimes then other flashcarts. It has a custom, and very pretty launcher with boxart and everything. Themes, right now I'm using one modeled after the Wii menu. It also boots and loads games much faster then other flashcarts or even cfw (custom firmware) on a DSi or 3ds. You can put GBArunner or other emulators on it if you wish.

More of a "toy" feature that I don't think most people will care about, but you can also force the DS fat and lite to run DSiWare games which was not originally possible. You do need to use TwilightMenu++ for this instead of the default launcher, but you can either switch to TwilightMenu++ for everything or run both. If I remember correctly about a third of DSiWare can run, so no where near everything, but still neat considering the DSi is more powerful.

Another neat aside, Phenommod is releasing a DSpico that has been modified to have IR support. This could be used in future homebrew, but is also used by the Pokewalker from Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It will work with original units but they are also releasing their own version, for cheaper and with a backlight screen, if you're into that. It also has a better CPU that lets you run compressed roms, even lower power usage, and a USB C port!

The kind of, "default" build by the team has micro usb which is a pain. Although you don't use this port much in normal use so I don't actually see it as a major flaw, even in current year. You can do some cool homebrew stuff with it though. One interesting example I saw was using a DSi as a webcam. But all you need it for is flashing firmware, you can take the SD card out for managing roms/art/themes/settings/etc.

But yea, finally a fully hackable DS flashcart! None of the BS of other carts.

girls on here being like "how is everyone getting a wife" "i dont know how to flirt". you are a girl, just say whatever you want a girl to say to you then shove her against a wall and have your way with her.

the number one tip i can give to anybody wanting to get in and maintain a relationship is to be confident (even if you arent actually confident!) know what you want and how you want it, communicate and practice getting better at doing so. relationships are work, they require effort, people cant read your mind

this is also why i say "dating is bad, date your friends". coming into a relationship with a highly specific expectation at square one almost never works, and its much easier to get into a dynamic with someone who you already know! you cant exit the friend zone without entering it

i am not lucky, i am skilled

this wasnt actually meant to be a serious post (nor is it calling anybody out in specific or related to this mega in general, more just things i hear a lot lol) but i figured it might be worth it to write a little thing, so here it is

I have friends Ive dated then figured out we're better as friends, I have had relationships out of friends, Ive got friends I wouldnt date (both because we just arent attracted to eachoyher but also because although we're compatible we're better off platonic), I dunno if I would tell people to just go up to their friends and ask them out though over and above asking a stranger or acquaintance out intentionally lol. I think if the advice is, like, you're probably better off getting to know people before jumping in to asking someone out, thats all well and good - but I definitely wouldn't rate asking out friends higher than a stranger.

The Friend Zone, conceptually is one party has a huge crush on the other and is intentionally or unintentionally strung along - unintentionally being strung along isn't really a thing but you get it. It does seem like way more a thing cishet dating than anything queer fwiw. Its definitely better to like ask someone out if you both know each other at least a little but Ive also been out on dates and had a relationship with people Ive asked out off the rip and people whove asked me out as a stranger. I definitely wouldnt say it is necessary to be friends first. Actually, Id find it a bit rude if I had someone I considered a dear friend reveal they only wanted to be friends to pass some imagined necessary middle stage of being a friend before asking me out.

Also, who's to say a dynamic is easier or less confusing just because you were friends first? I don't think that's accurate to be honest, it's a big change and new if someone makes the leap between friends to dating - who knows, it could be just as mysterious as meeting a stranger you really fancy and asking them out.

All I really have to add is that while getting into a relationship might seem like the hard part, it's so not. You have to learn how to communicate with your partner(s) and you have to continue to communicate with your partner(s). This is something you only get better at through practice.

I've never really dated friends. Sometimes it happens, but the majority of relationships I've had started off with strangers. The only ones of those that are worth remembering are the ones where it turned into a friendship, anyways. Either you have that foundation or you have nothing. The friend zone is where you end up when you don't communicate. It is the world of festering resentment. Don't do it to yourself or to other people. Talk to people. Be open and honest. They will find out who you are anyways. Just go out and do it. There is no shortcut around going out and doing it. Whatever you're doing, whoever you are, there is someone into it. Shamelessly exist, or look like you do.

Whatever you're doing, friendly reminder that it should be fun. If it feels like a joyless slog, you're doing something wrong. Take a break! Shake things up! Do something different. You'll know when it's right.

I'm a big fan of assertive declaration of intent and seeking consent. Like chatting to a cutie and being like "I would like to put my hand on the small of your back is that okay?", they say yes, and you keep chatting a bit, and then "I would like to put my arm around you is that okay?", "I would like to kiss you, can i kiss you?", so on. It's clear, direct and confident and if they don't say "yes" or say "no" I back off.

Recently I was hitting it off with a beautiful woman and I was stroking her back and she said "oh hey I don't think I can do anything sexual this weekend" and I was "okay that's cool, do you want me to stop stroking you", she was like "no I like this" and then I was like "Just confirming where the line is, is kissing a no?" and she was like "no kissing" and I was like "okay cool". Got her number and a plan to catch up down the track.

sexAlso this applies to the heavier stuff with my current girlfriend I basically said "hey, dating, BDSM and sex are all on the table, pick and choose, what would you like?" And she was "all three please"
