Handheld mega is here! I have a few gaming handheld topics I want to yap about, I'll try to add one a day.

First thing I want to talk about is new to me, and relatively new in general, the DSpico! The DSpico is a new, fully open source flashcart for the Nintendo DS and DSi. The whole stack from the hardware, software, firmware is all freely available for anyone to modify and use. Built with an RP2040 microcontroller, 2 megabytes of flash memory, micro usb port.

So that's cool and all, we love open source projects, but what can it actually do? The basic function, for those who don't know, is to load software off an SD card on old consoles (Homebrew, launchers, and of course games). This lets you keep your entire library on one cartridge, including homebrew games and rom hacks. In addition this is the first flashcart to support DSiWare (downloadable games for the DSi), so you can pop it in a DSi or 3ds and play those games, in addition to the DS library.

Some other cool features. It has one of the lowest power draws of any flashcart, much less then the classic R4 clones. You don't need to charge it, it just takes power from the DS, but it does have noticeably longer playtimes then other flashcarts. It has a custom, and very pretty launcher with boxart and everything. Themes, right now I'm using one modeled after the Wii menu. It also boots and loads games much faster then other flashcarts or even cfw (custom firmware) on a DSi or 3ds. You can put GBArunner or other emulators on it if you wish.

More of a "toy" feature that I don't think most people will care about, but you can also force the DS fat and lite to run DSiWare games which was not originally possible. You do need to use TwilightMenu++ for this instead of the default launcher, but you can either switch to TwilightMenu++ for everything or run both. If I remember correctly about a third of DSiWare can run, so no where near everything, but still neat considering the DSi is more powerful.

Another neat aside, Phenommod is releasing a DSpico that has been modified to have IR support. This could be used in future homebrew, but is also used by the Pokewalker from Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It will work with original units but they are also releasing their own version, for cheaper and with a backlight screen, if you're into that. It also has a better CPU that lets you run compressed roms, even lower power usage, and a USB C port!

The kind of, "default" build by the team has micro usb which is a pain. Although you don't use this port much in normal use so I don't actually see it as a major flaw, even in current year. You can do some cool homebrew stuff with it though. One interesting example I saw was using a DSi as a webcam. But all you need it for is flashing firmware, you can take the SD card out for managing roms/art/themes/settings/etc.

But yea, finally a fully hackable DS flashcart! None of the BS of other carts.

My latest blood lab is really confusing. My dose works out to 1mg daily, and that's less than what was prescribed to me. I actually skipped my injection for a couple days since my lab was scheduled for an inconvenient time. Last time I had my labs it was close to or at peak (which I told my provider was the case but he didn't seem to care) so it was around 450 pg/mL which was maybe a little higher than expected but not strange for a peak reading. So this time, 7 days after injection, I was expecting something under 200 pg/mL, or honestly, something lower than 450 at least, because that's just basic logic. But no! It was 537 pg/mL!! How is this possible?? They fucked up the labs, right??

Did you have grapefruit or take a biotin supplement in the week before the test? Those will both raise the result.

No, I haven't had grapefruit in years for this reason (I miss you grapefruit...), and I do take supplements including a multivitamin but no biotin in any of those.

This probably isn’t the reason but those numbers could be explained by a pmol/L <-> pg/mL mixup, so I would double check that

Hmm lab results state pg/mL but maybe I could try to push for a retest anyway jic

A retest seems like a good idea. Any change to your supplements since the last normal result? Were your levels consistent before this one?

Supplements are the same since my last result. This is only my second lab on injections so I don't really have enough data collected to determine consistent levels; I was hoping that this time could be my baseline. Before this I was on pills for years, and then it went from a relatively stable 150ish down to 80s over the course of a year without any changes to my routine so I switched to injections earlier this year.

Maybe you ate something that interfered with the test? Some foods are high in biotin.

This is a good thought, and looking up those foods I do eat a lot of legumes and nutritional yeast... I had korma with tofu the night before so maybe the mixture of peas and tofu lead to a spike the next day? The only thing I had to eat before the blood draw was popcorn though I guess I did sprinkle some yeast on that too. I'm actually surprised how much biotin yeast has, I had no idea

Maybe, everybody's liver metabolizes drugs differently. If you want an actual trough level you get tested the same day you usually inject but before you actually inject that day. Maybe you just could go down, save money. Theres a lot of variation in how liver enzymes do their thing, and ultimately what matters is how your body takes it not what the WPATH says it ought to be.

Lots of things alter the metabolism of estradiol. Some antifungals, some HIV meds, smoking tobacco, smoking/using cannabis, grapefruit, etc. Some speed it up, some slows it down. Anyway, you can get a retest at your next trough and see if its any different.

Im sure youre not, but this is the basement level "turn it on and off again" that you gotta get through - is there any way you mixed up mL instead of mg? Like accidentally took too much? Are you sure they reported in pg/mL and not pmol/L? Cause if randomly this lab reported back 540 but it was pmol/L then in pg/mL its way lower.

This is ideal but nearly impossible to coordinate with my provider. I know I can pay out of pocket for one but money is already tight and I want to avoid unnecessary spending. Maybe if I mark a calendar and set an appointment months in advance I can make it work with my provider idk

    smoking/using cannabis

I'm not saying it doesn't alter the metabolism, but I feel like I would've noticed this effect sooner in previous labs unless there's a dramatic difference between cannabis interactions with pills vs injections

is there any way you mixed up mL instead of mg?

Nope. I can't even imagine injecting that much lol.

Are you sure they reported in pg/mL and not pmol/L?

Checked again and the results do state pg/mL

Are you injecting 7mg of estradiol valerate every week?

I think so? Vial is EV at concentration of 20mg/mL, I do 0.25mL injection every 5 days so that should be 5mg per injection and averaged out to 1mg per day.
