I have no idea how to word the title in a way that both encapsulates what Im talking about and doesn't sound like something a tik tok-ass crystals person would say.

I started HRT in two phases, first came spiro and some months later came estrogen. The reasoning behind the multistage approach was ultimately very silly and totally irrelevant to this topic. However the experience of starting an antiandrogen and estrogen source seperately was very interesting.

Spiro was like waking up for the first time in over a decade. Estrogen had a myriad of more subtle cognitive, almost spiritual effects. I could feel the existence of an authentic self at my core in a way I hadn't been able to before. I described the feeling as "getting my body and my life back from someone who couldn't handle it anymore". This was well-prior to coming out and girlmoding fulltime.

Over time, many (but not all!) of the memories from before this began to feel like they belonged to someone else. Some felt like the recollection of stories I had been told, rather than events I had lived through. Some had a perspective shift, I was no longer the participant, but an observer, someone standing in the corner of the room or in the "backseat" of my own mind.

I've heard of a handful of similar experiences from other, equally transgender ladies but nothing quite like this. Some of my friends have suggested that what I'm describing are symptoms of an altogether more serious personality/disassociative disorder... but I dunno about that (my therapist had doubts too) and thats really scary anyways.

So like, can anyone else relate or am I just really really unwell?

I started my transition not long after a TBI, so, not sure if it's the TBI or the HRT.

But! I could not picture things in my head before. I could imagine words to describe things, but not actual pictures.

That's changed. As an example I just brushed my teeth, and was able to picture a timer that counted to 30 sec for each quadrant of my mouth, and hit 2 min exactly. That was kind of exciting, for someone that was effectively aphantasiac a few years ago.

But that could totally be the TBI knocking something loose - it cracked my egg after all.

    Thats fucking WILD.

I don't even know what to say, thats such a unique experience. HRT changed my cilantro gene and thats kinda weird but nothing like that. If you dont mind telling, how did your TBI crack your egg?

I was riding my bike without a helmet and was hit by a car, losing several weeks of memory and spending months in recovery.

I knew I was really lucky. I could have died! And I started thinking a lot about that, about being buried as a man and being remembered as a man and no one knowing there was more going on under the surface. It was all I could think about for a while.

It was also when I found out I already had boobs, or well, "gynaecomastia". They never bothered me before so I never went to the doctor about it, and I remained unbothered with my official diagnosis. "I have boobs, so what?" Combined with the "oh shit I could have died" thoughts I started thinking "maybe these aren't cis thoughts." Still took, like, six months to actually see anyone about hrt.

Funny enough, when I first went to the doctor to talk about my gender dysphoria, they at first thought I was going to talk about a breast reduction until I confirmed "no actually I'd like them to be bigger please." They are, by the way. ๐Ÿ˜

Thats a incredible, unique, and very cool story, Im glad you survived to tell it. Its interesting how many stories of trans realization involve near death experiences.

"Still took, like, six months to actually see anyone about hrt."

Theres no shame in waiting because it be like that sometimes. In my case I spent like 12 years avoiding the issue, and I was constantly beating myself up over it for the last 5 years of that period. So you were MUCH more on top of it than I was lol.

    Congrats on the tits btw
