Man I'm glad I started shaving my head when I did. For anyone out there also dealing with going bald, fully committing usually looks better than pretending it's not happening.

My dad and uncle look like twins, but my dad always shaved his head and my uncle tried the 3-hair combover to cover it up. So I grew up seeing how much better my dad always looked, and the second I noticed my receding hairline, I committed. Looking back at old pics, it was still probably a year or two later than I should have. The blinders are real.

I've tried it before, but I've been told that when I shave my head I look as if I'm on cancer treatment. So I guess I still look better with the hair that I've got.

I’ve been told that when I shave my head I look as if I’m on cancer treatment.

When people tell you this, respond with a thousand-yard stare, wait 15 seconds, and then quietly say, "I don't want to talk about it right now."

Depending on what they meant by that it could be they needed a period to adjust to the new look. I know it took a while before people forgot what I even looked like with hair.

Can you grow a beard? I had a couple of years after shaving where I looked like a thumb, but a beard changed everything.

The beard changed everything ... from the front.

Sorry to break it to you like this.

You can also take DHT blockers to prevent hair loss, and minoxidil to turn vellus hair into terminal hair

I did minoxidil for a bit, but honestly it wasn't worth the effort and money in my opinion.

Ah fair, my friend used it to grow facial hair before he started T, and it seemed to work well for him, but ig results may vary :)

Yeah, it's definitely YMMV. Also I read that minoxidil is only good for hair loss in the back, not for receding hairline. I was using it for almost a decade before I switched to a buzz cut, then shaved it all off. Unfortunately my hair loss was primarily in the front, so I'm not sure minoxidil ever did much.

(Fellow trans person btw, though I haven't tried to use it before testosterone started kicking my hairline the way my genetics were pointing 😅️)
