My toes and face are the worst. If I try to protect my nose, I get snot everywhere and it's gross. If I don't, I feel like my face will freeze off my body. Too hot sucks as well. No winning for me except for spring maybe. permalink fedilink source parent [–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 10 points 3 days ago (1 child) Yeah, cold all the time, barely see the sun because I'm at work the entire time it's out. Like I'm fairly sure half the soviet union would've moved to somewhere around the black sea if they could have. permalink fedilink source parent [–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 days ago (1 child) Yeah I've asked my mom, it was cold here in the winter in the soviet era too. And I believe a lot of people had these things called "jobs", except they were even less voluntary than they are now, so being at work for the entirety of the sunny daytime period of 10 AM to 3 PM hasn't exactly been invented with capitalism. The one thing capitalism has changed is it gathered everyone into the cities because there's a lot less support of small countryside schools and such. So instead of walking 5 KM to bus stop to take the bus to school, kids can now take a city bus that stops closer to their home and comes every 30 minutes at most. There's a bunch of problems you could solve by abolishing capitalism, but weather ain't one of them. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Calfpupa@lemmy.ml 1 point 2 days ago they were even less voluntary than they are now People that don't have jobs today lose their housing and starve to death. You think there's a level below that? And no, what caused that was mechanization of farming. Now, thanks to capitalism, we're dealing with heatwaves beyond predictions and snowstorms that out freeze historic data, so I wouldn't say that capitalism isn't impacting the weather. Also, before it, people had the ability to take breaks from work, which doesn't really exist today. permalink fedilink source parent [–] shartgargle@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago (1 child) My hands feel like they're being crushed by boulders, and face feels like needle face x1000 in the cold. I prefer the cold, and my comment was saying I prefer the cold, specifically because I can't handle the hot well. It's hotter than the other seasons, and it's hotter than it used to be. I don't like the hot. I prefer the cold, and my comment was saying I prefer the cold, specifically because I can't handle the hot well. I was saying it's very silly to claim something along the lines of "The only reason people think they prefer the cold season is because they haven't experienced real cold." I've experienced the cold. I prefer it. I still see no contradiction, but maybe I'm just dense? Edit: Minor structural change, less ambiguous wording. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 0 points 2 days ago (1 child) I've experienced subzero cold and 110°+ heat. I'll take the cold thanks. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 1 point 2 days ago You're welcome. permalink fedilink source parent
[–] T0RB1T@piefed.ca 11 points 3 days ago (1 child) All the mfers saying "I can only get so naked" haven't experienced the cold. I grew up (and still live) in a part of Canada where it regularly gets below -40°C in the winter, and... no. I 100% will say stuff like "I can't take off any more clothes." Winter is fine, I can always add another layer. Summer sucks now, it didn't get this hot nearly as often in the past, and I mostly hate summer now. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 0 points 3 days ago (1 child) You are contradicting yourself not one line break later. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] T0RB1T@piefed.ca 3 points 3 days ago (1 child) Please humor me, where is the contradiction? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 0 points 3 days ago (1 child) You said summer is more hot.
