It's a seaside town with extreme levels of poverty. There's very little immigration indeed but it has grown.
They go for Farage because he gives them a scapegoat and a promise of change, and nothing got much better for them in the last few decades so they don't see the point of voting for the major parties. It's a protest vote. Farage the cheating billionaire's voice found a constituency desperate enough and poorly educated enough to give him a shot.
BBC have been platforming and legitimising his crap for years and years, giving him more screen time than any other politician in this history of British television and instead of pointing out where he's factually incorrect (like they used to do decades ago), they just say "Labour disagrees" and he just says "well they would".
Is Farage friendly towards BBC?
Usually populists aren't into balanced media reporting.
Oh no, it's unrequited love on the part of the BBC.

No, no, the BBC do their level best to put him on screen as much as possible and softball any challenge to his lies. Farage is unmoved by this and will shaft the BBC and badmouth them whenever the mood takes him.
What's that got to do with the BBC?
