“My administration has reviewed every avenue available under applicable law to determine whether New York City could execute the international criminal court’s arrest warrant if Benjamin Netanyahu came here,” Mamdani said. “It is clear that we do not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.

of course it isnt happening. Too many people with far more access to the levers of power want Netanyahu left alone, regardless of anyone's opinion about mamdani.

This should be obvious to anyone, but that also includes Mamdani. This leaves us with two possiblities:

  1. He stated his intent to arrest Satan because he had no idea what he was talking about and is now eating crow for making such a ridiculous claim.
  2. He stated his intent to arrest Satan even though he knew it wasn't something he could do, but also knew that it would play well with his base.

Neither of these are great outcomes for Mamdani stans IMO.

there's also #3:

there are ways to entangle him into the legal system so that he could face justice, but doing so would force mamdani to expend all/most of his politlcal capital and will backfire badly if he fails.

so he's going to do the same thing that the democrats have been doing for the last half century on any progressive legislation/order and simply say that they can't do anything because his hands are tied by the system.

Reminds me of all the campaign ads from candidates who will "fight inflation."
