I think this is the story of the (console) generation - MS wanted to make Gamepass "the netflix of video games", spent tens of billions of dollars to do it, and lost subscribers. The new CEO is 100% standing on a glass cliff for the xbox division, it's just a question of how much value for the brand she can salvage while the higher ups continue to slash and burn.
They were doing well with game pass, but then they started throwing day one releases on there, and of course people stopped buying those games. Then they doubled the price of game pass trying to recoup money and lost a bunch of subscribers. Just incredible brain genius moves.
They did that in part because they had bought a dozen studios to make gamepass content and all of them immediately stopped releasing games. All of it was handled extremely poorly at every step.
