My modding life mostly revolved around battlefield 2 and UT 2004 which was the best mods ever made for anything ever
- original tekkit and aether mod. The real og’s of minecraft modding, they hit a high so good Ive only ever been let down ever since. Dont forget to delete you META-INF folder!
- Killing floor 0, excessive headbob straight outta crysis ultra maximum sexual graphics videos on youtube
- red orchestra, again nothing has ever hit this high
- defense alliance 2, im surprised this never got a standalone like killing floor but i remember it being poggers
- forgotten hope 2, still probably the best ww2 game ever made with some actually fun bots that can air drop n shit
- AIX 2.0, its just silly
- project reality, its like squad but i can see things
- refreshing the cry of fear progress bar on moddb
- the tyrannids mod for dawn of war that took ages to release and was kinda mid when it came out but still was the biggest mod. Otherwise the remove unit cap and unit shadows was the natural mod pick for dawn of war
Those are the major ones I remember. Total conversion mods used to be the norm now mods barely even exist
I always liked the Mount & Blade total conversions. The base game was already a jank mess so it didn't really matter much that the mods were fucked too (see: fully-automatic elf archers in PoP). Still waiting on similar stuff for Bannerlord, sadly.
Tabletop Sim has so many mods that let you play just about any boardgame. Shout out to Spirit Island and Heat.
Total Warhammer 3 has a good number of mods, and I basically never run it vanilla anymore. Mostly use stuff like Victory Conditions Overhaul to get more varied (and actually achievable) Immoral Empires victory conditions, or Warband Upgrade Ultimate to be able to promote units to other ones at higher tiers.
All of my hours in M&B come from playing Warsword Conquest, the Warhammer Fantasy mod. There's so many to choose from. I wish the Star Wars mod had better combat maps because there's no cover and it's just standing in one spot shooting each other.
I really like how fucking horrible the orcs, skinks and whatnot look in Warsword, seeing the base (already hideous) human M&B models squashed and stretched is hilarious.
The authentic Fire and Sword experience.
