For car lights they're definitely dangerous. It's possible to make them identical to incandescent in brightness and color but there's no regulation so now we have an asshole who-can-be-blindingest car owner battle.
That's how big light bulb wants it! Zero regulation means they can sell you literal fucking rays of sun with the same efficiency as a normal light bulb while still advertising "LEDs are more efficient than other light bulbs so you SAVE MORE MONEY BUYING OUR TETRABRITEBEEMS 40,000!"
I mean they definitely have better efficiency than an incandescent or phosphorescent light bulb. that's like one thing you can for sure say about them. it would actually be quite difficult to build an LED that had the heat output of a literal burning filament.
