OTHER COMMS IN THE HISTORYVERSE:
You could say the same thing about the modern day though:
"oh boy i wish i lived in the future where everything is better", cut to footage of gaza being fucking flattened, people working themselves to death manufacturing electronics in a factory, and people just literally being so fucking depressed that they kill themselves by overdosing on medicine.
Shit man, today sucks, but it sucks a hell of a lot less than the past.
Gaza would not have lasted even this long if modern notions of 'just war', media, and PR not made it necessary for Israel to 'slow walk' their genocide - entire regions in the past could be 'ethnically cleansed' inside of a year with primitive weapons and logistics. Israel doesn't lack the material capacity to do so - the issue is that it needs to sell its genocide as, in some way, a response to 'aggression' while painting themselves as 'reasonable' to rubes who don't follow the situation.
People working themselves to death is nothing new, except perhaps 'new' with the advent of sedentary agriculture.
Suicide is definitely nothing new. Suicide was rampant in the past just as today, but there were no therapists or antidepressants back then.
