Many cis ppl think transphobia is basically just being rude, masking it as "having concerns" or whatever passes under the radar for them. Same way lots of white ppl think racism is just yelling the n word

Yea 100%, it's so common even in people who believe they support us. I saw someome (not here) the other day say they support trans people. But not trans women in sports, non passing trans women in bathrooms, trans women going to women's prison, and were not sure if trans youth should get healthcare. Fantastic.
People definitely just think transphobia is outward hostility
"Supports trans ppl" but thinks trans women should be forced into actively dangerous situations in mens prisons, bathrooms and locker rooms. Amazing
Classic case of "i support trans people except in any situation where it's controversial and actually matters."
