Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
The rules are simple:
- The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author's website, for instance).
- The comic must be a complete story.
- If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
- You may post comics from others or your own.
- If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
- The comic can be in any language, but if it's not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post's 'body' field (note: you don't need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
- Politeness.
- AI-generated comics aren't allowed.
- Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.

14 minute old account spamming comics. It’ll be deleted before it sees the top of the hour, I wager.
The account has lasted 7 hours!!!
Did we figure out why do they do this?
On one hand, they're posting more content than everyone else combined, so there is that.
On the other hand, it seems very strange and it is defiantly an issue if people can spin up a bunch of accounts, post a ton of stuff (potentially illegal), delete the account and spin up another to do it again. I'm guessing it's all under a VPN and distinct emails, making an IP ban not possible.
i'm guessing it's someone from the comics reddit who got banned both there and here for significant misbehavior and who is now trying to prove that they are liked, but has not actually figured out how to interact with people.
SEE THEY LIKE MY POSTS NOW WATCH AS I DELETE THEM that's really all i can think of as motivation. like, they are not even their comics i cannot see how they get validation
Speaking of, does anyone know of a Lemmy android client that allows hiding posts from new accounts? Boost doesn't do it and it's also a bit buggy. Bonus points if available on F-Droid
iirc Voyager will show the age for less than a month old accounts, Im not sure if it also supports hiding posts from them

Yes, comics from 1-hour old accounts are significantly less funny than those from 5-hour old accounts. All know that!

Theres been a string of accounts being made, spamming content to this community, and then being deleted shortly after.
On its own thats just kinda annoying and confusing but the main problem comes in when taking account of what content is being spammed. A majority of the comics being posted are either anti-women, racist, or both and with the fact that its pure spam rapidly shot out from random short lived accounts its impossible to keep up with for the moderators. This also means that any form of warning or bans won't do anything since they aren't real people and by the time any of those could even happen the account is gone.
So... does that mean the fediverse model has moderation limitations? In case it grew to become mainstream, how could we deal with automated new accounts posting biased content?
Alright, thanks for the catchup. This particular comic seems fine though ? or is that something they do ? start off with something innocuous to not raise any flags, and then go on a spam spree ?
Honestly I'm not sure?? I dont know what the goal of this even is or why it would be done?
Yes theres a lot of spam of shitty comics but they also tend to get downvoted to hell so thier reach isnt very wide anyway and then the account vanishes.
There doesnt seem to be much strategy at all and it just fundamentally doesn’t seem like its very effective at doing anything other than being really annoying??
Bot farms throwing reactionary shit at the wall, hoping 1% of them stick ?
I prefer my accounts fermented in mahogany barrels for at least a month.
