I have been liking it a lot. Just all of it really, but especially the two protagonists. The little boy who plays Egg is going to have a hell of an acting career ahead of him. He really steals every single scene especially with his emotive range for such a young actor. Dunk is also great in that humdrum naive farm boy aspiring to be a hedge knight way but his performance is far more subdued. Together their performances compliment each other wonderfully.

Yeah that has been my vibe as well. Would love more adaptation of the universe in this vein. For big epic gritty fantasy I would also love to see someone adapt the Powder Mage series. It starts with a fantasy world's version of the french revolution and the titular "powder mages" are basically magic musketeers who snort gunpowder to turn into the 18th century france version of Neo/John Wick. It slaps.

How were the sequels? I read Promise of Blood and enjoyed it but then moved on to other stuff instead.

I really enjoyed the whole series. Also the grill pilled "god" is a great bit.
