It be sweet if I was on either extreme but to sit on the fence like this (average) just shows my cowardness. I wonder if being flag-non-binary-pride at least puts me in a new categorythinking-about-it

If you’re a union employee and you’re buying new, they have a program where you send them your union info and you get a pretty decent discount, but you might not get your choice of color/whatever. Boots are generally made to order, so wait times are anywhere from 2-12 months. They also do size exchange if they don’t fit right once you receive them. Their customer service is pretty excellent and if you have questions give them a call and they’ll walk you through the process.

I would suggest buying used first to find your size as their sizing is weird. I wear a 12 4E in new balance, but an 11 FF in nicks fwiw.

Break in can be brutal. They use intense leather. Very much not vegan just fyi. I know that’s a dealbreaker for many hexbears.

I didn’t expect to be writing a boot ad this morning but here we are. After living a lifetime with foot pain I’m just grateful my feet are happy is all.

Honestly appreciate it, I do want to get into a union but I missed the last window and RN just looking to get some work until April but I'll keep this in mind and get some used ones first

For sizing, make sure you measure your feet with tailor tape and follow their size guide.

As for unions, they are totally hit or miss depending on what local you’re in and what kind of work you do, and honestly fuck unions for the most part, but there are some good locals out there. Here’s some unsolicited info dumping on my experience with unions.

I don’t need to know what your field/trade is, but I found the best contracts and jobs are typically at legacy institutions (state or county agencies, public or private universities, prep schools, etc.) in or near large cities. You’ll generally make less per hour than folks working through the union hall, contractors, etc., but you’ll make up for it with a static schedule/hours, not traveling to job sites a million miles away, no hotels, not working outside as much (unless that’s your thing), typically chiller supervision, and the Bennies are usually pretty stellar. The strong locals have strike funds matched by their national as well. I don’t know that I’d worry about pension contributions so much, because I’m pretty sure amerikkkan markets are gonna go belly up long before being eligible to draw from a pension.

badposting is a comm where you post badly

This is not a !the_dunk_tank@hexbear.net alternative. This is not a !memes@hexbear.net alternative. This is a place for you to post your bad posts.

Ever had a really shitty bit idea? Joke you want to take way past the point of where it was funny? Want to feel like a stand-up comedy guy who's been bombing a set for the past 30 minutes straight and at this point is just saying shit to see if people react to it? Really bad pun? A homemade cringe concoction? A cognitohazard that you have birthed into this world and have an urge to spread like chain mail?

Rules:

  1. Do not post good posts.
    • Unauthorized goodposting is to be punished in the manner of commenting the phrase "GOOD post" followed by an emoji that has not yet been used in the thread
    • Use an emoticon/kaomoji/rule-three-abiding ASCII art if the rations run out
  2. This is not a comm where you direct people to other people's bad posts. This is a comm where you post badly.
  3. This rule intentionally left blank.
  4. If you're struck for rule 3, skill issue, not allowed to complain about it.

Code of Conduct applies just as much here as it does everywhere else. Technically, CoC violations are bad posts. On the other hand: L + ratio + get ~~better~~ worse material bozo
