If you like me get overwhelmed by the news and the combatting of malinformation, don’t forget to take a break when you need it. Burning out will help nobody.
The propaganda machine can spam information with no effort, but we have to work hard to spread the truth through organizing and community building. Our work is important and we have to keep doing it today, tomorrow and all the days after that. You can’t change peoples views with one conversation, it takes seeds and the building of community they can turn to whenever they are ready to change their view.
We have to constantly deal with the contradiction of the urgency of change, and the fact that we have to be patient in order to effectively change peoples minds. Getting overwhelmed by this contradiction is normal and it’s valid to take a break once in a while to come back strong again.
I appreciate this because it really is driving me fucking insane seeing every comment say, "The Venezuelans love this!" They don't. A small subsection that left their homes and don't understand broader political relations love this.
It's like if people only heard the opinions of January 6th protestors and used that as an excuse to kidnap Biden. He wasn't the greatest President, a lot of people didn't like him, but that doesn't mean he wasn't voted in and focusing only on the "Stop the steal" would ignore everyone, the majority in fact, of people who did vote for him (without saying anything about how liberal democracies work lol).
It's so depressing seeing the propaganda machine go at full whirl.
Yeah before I made the post I got completely overwhelmed by all the lies manufacturing consent for this criminal act. It frustrates me to no end but I also have to acknowledge that I can’t change the narrative in one day on my own.
