Honestly I'd rather have a new game from any of Valves other game series before Half Life, Portal 3, TF3, Left For Dead 3. Deadlock already is kind of their honest attempt at TF3 by combining MOBAs with Overwatch. I always wished that Valve had taken a more direct interest in the games that came from Half Life mods. Really what Im saying is I wish Valve would make NMRIH 2 good.

I couldn't get into Deadlock because absolutely none of the characters are appealing to me. There is nobody I want to be and identify with which is a core part of how I choose characters in basically any game.

The aesthetic just doesn't work for me. It's too... gritty? realistic? Brown? idk how to describe it. I had the same issue with Concord. The proportions are right in the uncanny valley for me.

TF2 and OW both really work for me, they're cartoony in just the right way. Same for Valorant. But the only one of those with gameplay that I like is TF2.

I only played a couple rounds, but the whole moba/tf2 gameplay loop just feels so dated and one-sided now too. I don't want to get stuck into a 20 minute losing game where my teammates scream obscenities and refuse to swap roles

Exactly! If I can't have a Burly Beast, Medimedes and BINOCOLUS! painted in An Extraordinary Abundance of Tingeβ„’ medic then what's even the point?

Yes, except for me it's like, Mercy/Juno type characters. I don't enjoy being some masculine femme fatale or hyper ultra murder man, I like feminine characters. Valve has women in Deadlock but they're all written to fit a certain concept of power fantasy killing machine and I just do not vibe with that. Give me Princess Peach, Samus, Yoshi or Inklings any day over these edgy murderers.

I think they're writing well for the setting they've created but there is no room for cute characters in the film noir setting. It's very limiting. The only feminine characters that are ever portrayed in this setting are damsels in distress with an erotic accent that are rescued by the male protagonists. I'm sort of fine with these characters too but you can't make a playable character from that concept.

Are you re-uploading the same image for each new comment? It is probably better to copy paste the old image markdown, which means it will load faster for people (cached)

Good idea, I also went and lowered the resoloution (56k Warning!) Im not sure I'll keep it up for that long though I'm not a very frequent poster but your signature just got me nostalgic for the complete rebus-1 type shit you would see in signature banners.

good suggestion, but I would really hope that the system would use hashes to notice that two uploads are identical and alias the physical blocks... it's not even technically that difficult

[-] Edie@hexbear.net 2 points 5 months ago

That's a good idea, but still transferring those blocks is a waste of bandwidth.

yeah it defeats caching which is the bigger problem when you multiply by lots of users, not diskspace
