You know what’s crazy? I go outside and hear nothing about this. Vast majority of the world has no idea who Hasan even is but if you go online, particualry Reddit, you’d think this was a global catastrophe.
One thing i noticed about every online anglo place is that online stream/video drama is always incredibly overblown. If not for me sitting here i wouldn't ever heard about any of those guys, even the bigger ones like Destiny.
Everything I learn about streamers is against my will.
Most online spaces will have the majority of their content made by a tiny number of users. Those users are online a lot and post a lot. Because they (we) live online, they'll pollinate opinions on online drama to places where it's of limited relevance. Then because of the memetic nature of the drama, some critical mass of other online people in the pollinated spaces will become aware of the drama and form opinions on it, spreading them elsewhere and continuing the cycle. Notably, this can only really penetrate into spaces where a critical mass of very online people can possibly be accrued.
because its literally just being pushed by a small cult of destiny/h3h3 orbiters and their buddy who runs a doxxing company or whatever (dan saltman). Their reach is limited to a few subreddits, some parts of twitter, and manufactured articles like this one that look legit but are basically just blogs because of how forbes works. Their bs breaks containment occasionally if they come up with a convincing enough smear or clip but it has no IRL traction, and honestly isn't even that big online outside of their little bubbles where they have critical mass or complicit mods, etc.
I think social media with feedback loops like TikTok also make them think it has more motion when it’s really just the algorithm showing them what they want to see
