I've come to really like this guy. He relies almost entirely on objective economic and industrial measures and doesn't make grand sweeping projections about China saving the world. He just lays out over and over again the superiority of the Chinese economic model.
It's a good angle. It's pro-china content created from the perspective of China-watching and "we are losing" but without negativity towards China for being objectively better.
It's pretty clear to a longterm observer that he's pro-China but these videos work on libs when individually shared. They are especially effective when shown to Gen X and Boomers.
Yeah I like his stuff too. Just don't think to hard about the prayer stuff or his ideas about Chinese Christians. It put me off for a bit, but his analysis is just too good.

oh hell yeah, I agree, it's just that I see it on the weirdest videos. like hi welcome to my video about how the stress vs. strain graph of steel compares to that of a finished bridge, and oh yeah glory to jesus. like what?

Yes. It's a prayer that plays through the whole video in every video. You hear it best at the end of the videos with headphones on. It's a little surreal when you first hear it. His analysis is still good regardless. Though he does believe that its the Chinese Christians that are driving China's rise, and not, maybe, their proletarian dictatorship and the states deep involvement in managing the economy or their 5 year plans.
I do find it interesting just how deeply burrowed the anti-China brainworms are in westerners, that even those of us who recognise China for what it is still try to place some kind of western influence on their success, still trying to find some way to slip in western chauvinism, even in pro-China content ( though this is more of a "neutral China content" but that is so rarely heard in the west that it might as well be "pro-China").

If they don't spend half the video going off on tangents about evil dictators, Tibet, Hong Kong and "Ungers" it is clearly just a mindless pro-China shill and can safely be ignored.

Just keep his bias in mind when you watch his stuff. Read the sources he posts. I still think he's providing good information.

Sorry to do that to you, but consider this: you're now equipped to handle the conversation when I comes up. Imagine you send this to your lib friend who always has their earbuds in and they hear the prayer loud and clear and ask you about it and you have no idea. At least now you can be ready for it.
Haha no need to apologize. You're right that it's better to know and be prepared and I was just being silly anyway. I was already under the assumption that his criticism of US economic policy wasn't coming from Marxist analysis or anything like that and was more just generic anti-neoliberalism or perhaps realism. Chinese Christianity wasn't even on my radar though lmfao

I agree. That's why I don't think to hard about it. But it's subtle if your just watching his videos over speakers like I am and it felt very wired to go back to videos I had watched and realize there was this whispering prayer behind them all when I first realized it was there. I'm not being snarky. I mean it literally, don't think to hard about this weird aspect of this dude, because the analysis is good. I do think people should be aware though.
We are all biased right? Part of being a socialist is understanding that fact and also owning it. Most socialist media online is up front about their socialist bias. This channel is open about it's bias, it's not hidden, but it isn't front and center either. It would be just as strange if behind these videos he was reading Capital in a whispered voice with almost no mention of Marx anywhere else in the videos.
It did feel a bit deceptive when I became aware of this Christian element of the channel. However, over time it became clear this dude makes informative content, and he's clearly not trying to convert anyone with his content. So that bias is harmless so long as it's not impacting his analysis.
Same, it's nice to get a lucid and well sourced analysis in under 10 minutes.
