[–] riskable@programming.dev 123 points 1 year ago (5 children) support policies that promote childbearing. ...like making abortion legal in all 50 states again? Like comprehensive sex education in schools? Like treating women as people and not property? The most effective way for the Southern Baptists to promote childbearing would be for them to stay the fuck out of politics! permalink fedilink source hideshow 10 child comments replies: [–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 70 points 1 year ago Abortion policies are a DIRECT REASON why I haven't had any more children. If I can't have guaranteed access to necessary, life-saving medical treatment (e.g. emergency abortions) then I won't put my wife's life at risk for one more child. permalink fedilink source parent [–] evasive_chimpanzee@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago Southern baptists were pro-choice until the rise of the "moral majority" required southern baptists to fall in line with the catholic church on abortion to create the supply side Jesus we know today. permalink fedilink source parent [–] MountingSuspicion@reddthat.com 26 points 1 year ago (1 child) Note them prioritizing childbearing and not childrearing. Though they also aren't prioritizing childbearing regardless of what they say. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago Note them prioritizing childbearing and not childrearing. A lot of these conservative groups have their heads fully packed with eugenics and social darwinian philosophy. The goal is to just keep popping kids out and come-what-may. Eventually, a large enough population will produce some ubermensch. And then you breed the ubermench to get your prodigies and your messiahs. It's Genetics meets Calvinism. If you succeed, its because you've got the Purest Blood. If you fail, it is because you have trash DNA and should be cleansed to make way for the superior people who will follow. permalink fedilink source parent [–] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 21 points 1 year ago (1 child) Part of conservatism is the idea that "the more complex a solution is, the wronger it is." Another part is "We should be able to control women's use of their hoo-hoos for pleasure by restricting them to being baby chambers." Here we have a venn diagram where the circles are the same. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] Taleya@aussie.zone 11 points 1 year ago Easy way to rule these fuckers out is to get them to say "vagina" If they can't do it without giggling, offence, or claiming obscenity, out they go permalink fedilink source parent [–] Armok_the_bunny@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (2 children) I was kinda annoyed at the article for not giving any details on the kinds of policies they wanted there, even something as simple as better tax credits for having kids would go a long way towards making children affordable. And yet I am sure that's not what these people are advocating for. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] RealSpiderLane@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 year ago Note that none of these policies ever involve “giving.” It’s all taking this away, means-testing this, banning that, etc. permalink fedilink source parent [–] SomeoneSomewhere@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 year ago Their policy: https://media0.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTZjMDliOTUyNHc1eG4zNGxpb3g3ejB4djJmZnRvdmlqMHdvY21xdWo5cW91ejc5ZSZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/3otOKTjlqkF3C1XhFm/giphy.gif permalink fedilink source parent
