It's this. Technically our national drink is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becherovka but Slivovitz is what czech grandma's get day drunk on and harass you to drink with them with so it's the real national drink. It's technically the official drink of Moravia which is just spicy Czech. Then there is obviously the many varieties of beer. Let's just say Czechs are alcoholic for a reason we figured this shit out a thousand years ago
Slivovitz was weirdly associated with Yugoslav people here a while back (I don't know if it still is). You have movies from the 70s or so which identifies a Balkan person by them drinking slivovitz. Like "Oh he's Yugoslav, better get him some Slivovitz" or "On days like this I miss my homeland of Serbia, and I have to get some Slivovitz to cure my homesickness". It's in like 5 different old movies and shows I can think of.
Everybody in the Balkans claims it originates with them but the oldest active distillery for it is Czech so I'm saying it's Czech
Bulgarians get second place.
It's probably the perfect shot drink tho imo.
This smells like that usual thing where every Slavic thing is uniquely [The type of Slav currently talking] and a part of their distinct heritage.
