It's a remarkably new symbol though, only introduced in like the last 10 years or so, compared with $, £, or ¥, or even € which have much longer track records. Many fonts lack it.
Yeah but it's not like they never used P before the value.
PS: I googled the correct cyrillic alphabet P, thinking it would be slightly different. It doesn't seem like it is. PP
