This is going to be grounds for an appeal which might reduce the sentence. I understand why people want to preserve their loved ones, but this isn't helping carry out justice.
What a makes this story even weirder was that the ai script apparently talked about forgiveness, but he still got a year more. Which doesnt sound very forgiving to me. Anyway it is going to start to be really fun and messed up when they make the AIs interactive. Esp when they go off script during cross examinations or something like that.
Imagine basing your appeal on the equivalent of a courtroom seance. This is the world we live in.
This is the plot of the Ace Attorney series
If that appeal succeeds, I suspect "AI victim testimonies" will become seen as a major legal liability, and the problem will (mostly) solve itself.
