Titled "An Urgent Conversation with the American People," the livestreamed discussion comes ahead of Congress' return to session on Monday.

A statement released by both officials' offices said in part, "Republican leaders have made clear their intention to use the coming weeks to advance a reckless budget scheme to President Trump's desk that seeks to gut Medicaid, food assistance and basic needs programs that help people, all to give tax breaks to billionaires. Given what's at stake, these could be some of the most consequential weeks for seniors, kids and families in generations."

According to the statement, Rep. Jeffries and Sen. Booker plan to speak to shared American values and the nation's religious and moral underpinnings, and how the budget bill opposes these beliefs. They also plan to affirm to Americans watching the livestream that their voices matter, especially in this moment in time.

It’s fucking hilarious how you all try to change the meaning of “the left.”

The left has always been the Democratic Party, bud. And while it can be inclusive to other sociological and political ideologies, at its core, the democrats have been at its epicenter.

Maybe look up when the term originated from?

To me, all attempts to co-opt the term appear to only be accepted by those that like to misuse it, constantly.

Uh, no? The Democratic Party doesn't define the left. The Democratic Party left the left. Here's a bit right from Wikipedia.

The left seeks social justice through redistributive social and economic policies, while the right defends private property and capitalism. The nature of the conflict depends on existing social and political cleavages and on the level of economic development.

I haven't seen the Democratic Party pay anything but lip service to the definition of the left in a long time. Neoliberalism, which is the party line right now, is a right wing ideology.

From your own article:

In France, where the terms originated, the left has been called "the party of movement" or liberal

And since “liberal” is synonymous with democrats

The left are democrats.

This was fun!

The Republicans don't call themselves Nazis, and yet they are the party of Nazis. Turns out you can't trust a group's self-applied label to accurately describe what they stand for in perpetuity.

Turns out when “leftists” are proven wrong, they resort to whataboutism, and strangely compare themselves to the Nazi party.

Oh, and by the way, remember what I said you aren’t the left?

Turns out you can't trust a group's self-applied label to accurately describe what they stand for in perpetuity.

What are you even saying here? When did I use whataboutism? When did I compare myself to the Nazi party?

I am left of the Democratic Party on every issue. So if you're saying I'm not left but the Democrats are, how does that square?

As a side note, it's lovely when you start using your little subtle variations on names as a derogatory term. You know how petty and stupid it is when the Republicans say "Democrat Party" as some weird dig to emphasize the "rat" ending? Same energy with you and "leftist" which is a term I never used for myself and which is often used by Democrats derogatorily. I describe myself as left speaking of the left-right spectrum. If you want a political label for me call me a progressive, though even that isn't the whole truth.

When did I use whataboutism?

When you used republicans being Nazis as an example to illustrate some dumb point about democrats calling themselves the left- despite the fact that they’ve been called the left since they’ve existed.

When did I compare myself to the Nazi party?

When did I say you did?

I am left of the Democratic Party on every issue

Cool. But if you’re disassociating with democrats, maybe think about picking a new name. Because when I- and I’m certain many others, hear “the left”, we appropriately think democrat/liberal, and not progressivist, socialist, tankie, or communist- as many in these groups liken themselves as.

So if you're saying I'm not left but the Democrats are

Yes. That is what I am saying. If you’re not a liberal/democrat, you’re not “the left” by commonly accepted definition.

As for the remaining rhetoric, it is funny how I use my subtle variations on names, isn’t it?

I mean… We all see how kindly the lemmy “progressives” treat everyone here that is perceived to be even remotely right of Stalin.

Maybe when you are seen standing up to your fellow progressives when they use terms like “libtard” and “bluemaga” and shouting them down like think you’re doing here, you can finally earn that high road you seem to feel you are owned. Until then, enjoy living it up in the slums like the rest of us.

That's not whataboutism. Whataboutism is using issue B to distract from issue A. I'm using another flavor of issue A that you might understand to illustrate issue A.

You said "leftists" (meaning me, derogatorily) strangely compare themselves to the Nazi party.

Let me say this again for the little on the back: you don't define the left, the Democrats don't define the left, you and the Democrats aren't even left. I don't care about the origin of the term in 1800s France, that's completely irrelevant today. France is 5 governments away from that time.

I'm not a fan of Stalin or communism. So get the fuck out with your red scare bullshit. You're the one who went on the attack here, so get your own self and house in order before you start telling others how they need to behave.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

You said "leftists" (meaning me, derogatorily) strangely compare themselves to the Nazi party.

I said nothing even remotely close to this. In fact- YOU brought up Nazis, not me. I was simply saying that “the left” in America- by definition are democrats and liberals, and I proved it.

And:

So get the fuck out with your red scare bullshit

Really? Red scare bullshit? Dude, what’s with the persecution complex?? I haven’t said shit about you, and here you are playing victim- twice over, to some imaginary accusations I’ve made. Fo ahead and re-read through this discussion and point out to me exactly where I ever made an assumption of you- and while you’re at it- note how quick you are with the presumptive accusations. Or wait….

was this not you?

you and the Democrats aren't even left

Looks like a direct accusation to me! Weird how you’re the one protesting. It makes methinks something or another….

Seriously though… maybe think about taking a step back and chilling out a bit.

I haven’t once said a single thing about you personally. I don’t know you. And from this conversation alone, I honesty don’t care to.

And whether or not it was or wasn’t whataboutism is entirely irrelevant to the point that the whole Nazi bit was a shit argument to begin with. So, how about you tell me what logical fallacy it was and then we can hang that sign on it instead?

Would that make you feel better?

Walk it off.
