2.4ghz WiFi is actually pretty much the exact same wavelength as a typical microwave oven. It is microwave!
It's just a question of power. Like a small blinking LED is your router while a microwave is like a floodlight that dims the rest of the lights when you flick it on. (Plus it's shining into a reflective cage that contains the light and bounces it around.)
It's also why badly made microwaves can cause WiFi interference
