We need a new Christmas tree. My last one the dog pissed on (and tbh i brought it when I was broke so it was a bit... meh anyway). Mrs wants an real tree, which I would normally have no issues with but we're not here for Christmas day. Feel like a real tree is a bit wasted.

DT what would you guys pick? Also who makes good ornaments? Dog pissed on most of those too. And the Kmart ones looked great new but quickly fell apart.

Fake tree 100%

Always had real ones growing up and loved them. The smell, the feel, nothing comes close.

Bought a real one here in Oz once. Our first home, first Christmas.

Never again. Died super quick. Dry as hell. Little to no smell.

Completely not worth it.

We're looking for a new fake one this year and trying to find something of decent quality. Current one has been around for 17 years and needs and update

Just douse the fake one with:

No one will know it's fake.

Fuck that, fight fire with fire. I've got some wolf piss that would work.

Close all windows too in case the smell tries to get out

Dispensed from a 🎶 Fake plastic watering can... 🎶

a quick look online says Myer is probably the best bet. Big W and kmart's offerings look anemic, at least online.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

As much as I think Myer is outdated and overpriced......they do stock some quality gear.

Their Christmas range has always been great. I go there every year for Christmas stuff. Usually around Dec 27th-Jan 5th. 😆

My bf got put off real Christmas trees when his family got one that had a lovely nest of creepy crawlies in it. I just find them messier. I like the potted tree idea by Catfish!

we have one of those reject shop ones with built in fibre optic lights. No tinsel, no fishing it out of catbums for the next six months.

One year we got one of these and stuck baubels on it for an outdoor bbq christmas, looked pretty snazz. Looking up the link I found they do christmas themed ones too!

the integrated light idea is appealing. my only concern is if they break the tree is basically rooted.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

nah, just the lights. You can get a battery pack of LEDs from the reject shop for $2 and loop those around instead. Did that one year while waiting on a new bulb

Pine trees are great if you love picking up pine needles every day so the dogs, cats and kids don't put them in their mouths first. Also disposal is fun if you have a chainsaw.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Ahhhh. Now that I hadnt considered...

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Did doggo piss on the star at the top of the old tree? That's dedication we could all learn from.

Personally I'd just get a fake one. Real ones are a bugger to clean up when they drop needles. They do smell good though.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

he pissed on the bag containing the tree and its decorations in the garage. My fault, I know what he is like and he shouldnt have been given the chance. the bugger snuck in and was caught with his leg up mid stream.

Xmas is a big deal for me. I get real or fake trees depending on the theme. I prefer the real trees for the nice smell but have installed an all black fake tree this year.

If you go the real tree route, you need to jump on it this weekend or the good ones will be gone by the following. The scouts sell them and you can preorder. Also keep in mind they need watering almost every day. ( an automated watering system can be DIY if you’re so inclined)

If you aren’t that into it just get a fake one.

For ornaments, I source them from NSW. Christmas World or Amazing Christmas. You can buy in bulk.

Hit me up if any more questions

That black tree sounds awesome - got a photo?!

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Not yet, I’ve only just finished mounting the motor for the tree topper to the ceiling. I will finish the tree this weekend and post photos.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

I've thought about a themed one. Black forest or the ones with the fake snow. Dunno if I'm brave enough though.

[-] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

The problem is you have to use it for several years to get your money’s worth so probably just pick out a fake tree you can live with for a while, if you go that route

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Buy a real potted one of whatever you want, bother the shape, plant it when it gets too big to move inside for the holiday. Rinse & repeat.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

yeah sadly not enough room to keep it alive. Plus the dog will likely kill it.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

Pity.

I do have a friend who does a Festive Twig

Just a quick question: Is your wife an Aries by any chance?
