I get that. I'm a cold one myself. I like my apartment around 10 degrees cause blankets are better than a stuffy apartmen heat. However, I would consider how.the temperature is one single problem that you can do things yourself to overcome. Here the problems are much more myriad than staying a comfortable temperature and way harder to personally handle. You've got a partner who can help get you in, I'm hoping you've been learning the language from said partner cause trying to learn your partner's first language as well.as you can when they've bothered to learn yours just kinda feels like something that'd happen in most decent relationships, you'd at least know more phrases than most. If you're useful otherwise than I'd move. I mean useful aside from learning the language cause like...don't move to a poorer country and then not contribute and I do hold a double standard regarding immigration where I totally get if whatever south eastern Asian country you're referring wouldn't want you if you wouldn't contribute. It's a double standard that isn't hypocritical at all, why would they want some American who wants to flee the mess they've made now that it's come home to roost if they're not gonna be useful? There's a difference between that and American not taking people from poorer countries. Double standards are occasionally fine.
Yeah I agree with everything youve said which is why at this point in my life I am not very well traveled and haven't considered leaving. Side note, my partner learned English and their advanced degree and career so it's a bit different, but I will certainly make the effort if plans solidify. I will make the effort anyway but it would be motivating if I knew I was going to be there long term. I have some trade skills but my most useful contribution is living frugally and not causing trouble.
