World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Seems like a bad idea to get rid of your bargaining chips...
Like bibi cared if they lived or died.
"Getting the hostages back" is the reason bibi keeps accidentally dropping bombs on kids and trying to start ww3.
If there's no hostages....
They would need something to bargain with. They are severely outgunned.
It's clear bibi is not bargaining.
So, what would be the point?
Either kill them because bibi doesn't care, blame it on bibi.
Or release them all, and then watch bibi continue to slaughter kids, because bibi doesn't care.
Because the other option is to fight until everyone is dead? Maybe they should care about Gazans and not do that?
I mean you're basically saying give up and die.
Do you know that india spent 200 years to get free from britain and 4 millions died directly, if you count human made famine caused by the colonizer it's amount 100 millions https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2022/12/2/how-british-colonial-policy-killed-100-million-indians
The spirit of resistance will never end
How about all the Palestinians who aren't part of this resistance and just don't want anyone to kill them? You know, like all the children? Maybe don't just sacrifice them for the glorious revolution?
Blame the colonizer
Or how about rather than finger pointing and saying, "blame them if all the children die in the glorious revolution," solutions should be found so that doesn't happen?
Why is stopping innocent people from dying not a consideration for so many people here? Just saying "blame Israel" doesn't stop Israel from killing people. It's not a solution.
You want kids to stop dying? Ask israel to stop it's colonization and killing them
Because asking them will work?
I'm pretty sure it won't.
You know Israel routinely kills Palestinians regardless of this conflict or not. They were dying before and will die after as long as Israel is around.
Maybe don’t sacrifice them to keep the human right abuse and genocidal status quo?
Yet again- what is the solution to save lives? Because I keep hearing people suggesting that Israel will just kill everyone and, despite what someone else said, asking Israel to stop is not going to work.
Should Ukraine surrender to Russia because it would save lives by ending the war?
When did I say anything about surrendering?
Since when is a negotiated ceasefire a surrender?
That’s what most Palestinians want and what even Hamas agreed to no? I mean Hamas even agreed to disarm if there’s a two state solution. Not that it would be good for Palestinians to be ruled by Hamas and not that I trust that the armed fractions would just be like „um yeah ok I guess this is it“.
But anyway I have no answers to how to achieve a ceasefire since the Israelis are actively blocking any ceasefire currently and any path to Palestinian sovereignty ever since. I think that’s where OP is coming from.
What I'm saying is that if they have nothing to negotiate with, i.e. no hostages, there will be even less of a chance to stop this.
Not.at.all.
I'm saying it doesn't matter if they show any goodwill or they are saints, or if they mass murder them in public.
Bibi doesn't care.
Bibi, and a lot of others are genocidal maniacs.
The only option bibi leaves is to fight back.
They are fighting back.
They're also massively outgunned, so they will lose eventually. At the expense of the rest of Gazans. Why is that an acceptable outcome to you rather than a negotiated ceasefire?
Because bibi DOESNT CARE.
There will NEVER BE A NEGOTIATED CEASEFIRE.
Bibi is fucking evil.
So, again, you're saying just let all the Gazans die.
Because without a negotiated ceasefire, whether you think it will happen or not (and I would love to borrow your crystal ball), that is what will happen.
There will be no other outcome.
That is not acceptable.
I believe they are saying that thanks to Bibi, there can't be a cease-fire. They aren't advocating for them to kill the hostages or hand them all over, they are saying regardless of what happens with the hostages Bibi is going to continue to indiscriminately kill Gazans. In a tongue in cheek manner it was suggested Bibi is using the hostages as an excuse for continued attacks, so if there aren't hostages, there's no excuse. I don't think that was an honest suggestion, just gallows humor. But the point is valid that Bibi doesn't actually care about the hostages and will keep genociding to his heart's content.
Thank you for your reading comprehension skills.
That's exactly what I was getting at.
Edit: I mean, I said in my first response to that (now blocked) person was"the only option bibi leaves is to fight back"
I don't know how that was unclear.
I think it was being intentionally obtuse rather than a misunderstanding.
I don't think they are being tongue-in-cheek at all. From all I can see, they're saying that there will be no negotiations, period, so Hamas needs to fight until everyone is dead.
Because, again, that is the only option I can see if there isn't even a point in trying to negotiate. They are fighting a vastly superior force in a tiny space around a lot of innocent people.
They don't give a fuck about the hostages, they think they can become more justifiably unhinged the more hostages die.
I guess they do give a fuck about the hostages, but not in the way you'd usually care about them.
Also usually bad to kill the person who is negotiating with you but hasn't stopped Israel. Same with the other hostages they've killed.
It's amazing how Israel constantly makes themselves look worse
True, although...bargaining chips for what?
A ceasefire.
Oh right.
