It's a reference to Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The Albatross was considered some kind of lucky omen by sailors back in the day. Probably because it never seems to land and accompanies ships at sea or something. Either way, dudebro shoots an Albatross for no real reason and brings a curse down on his ship. As punishment his crew-mates lash it around his neck as a visible sign of his cruel action.
