There's a crazy amount of sinophobia on Reddit, but let's be clear, the people who fervently defend the Chinese government are being just as disingenuous.

I disagree. Us more tech-savvy people will come across, sure. But most people aren't. And they have hobbies and jobs too, and want a place to gather online for that.

Because social media exists. There is identity attached to your online presence for the vast majority of people.

The fediverse seems to be the future

I just find it so hard to believe this because I cannot imagine 99% of people caring to go through the sign-up process.
