Very off topic: The only plausible reason I’ve heard to be “nice” to LLMs/virtual assistants etc. is if you are being observed by a child or someone else impressionable. This is to model good behaviour if/when they ask someone a question or for help. But also you shouldn’t be using those things anyhoo.

It's probably worth 14B in the way a fire that you feed 14B of cash into is worth 14B

We’re anti-grass lawns now? Fuck yes. I knew this place had potential.

I’m no landscaper so don’t quiz me on the options, but grass is in the lowest tier option for things to fill outdoor space with.

I don’t get it. Is this a spartacus situation or a stolen valour situation? Just claiming satoshi-nature isn’t enough to acquire satoshi’s-wallet-nature.

I'm feeling a weird mix of emotions about this. It's not the cash grab by ol' salty dog; capitalism is doing its thing. I'm both elated that these idiot liberals feel betrayed by this turn of events and enraged that these liberal idiots exist to launder the reputation of techbros in the first place.

“Your wages feel overtuned.”

“We’re thinking of reworking your position.”

“This company is in beta. Your position is not fixed and might not be in the final product.”

Tangent: As a first time participant in an early access game, I came across the term “overtuned” which made me irrationally angry. My understanding is that it is supposed to mean “you buffed this because of feedback but maybe a little too much” but I have rarely seen it used to mean other than “this needs a nerf, and I won’t justify my position, but I want to sound like I’m reasonable”

10^27 future lives

Ok here’s my Rat fermi-time traveller party paradox, in short, the Rat FTTP paradox.

  1. According to Rat doctrine, many worlds is true and science is amazing and will solve all problems eventually.
  2. Lack of time travel is a problem, meaning in some world, eventually there will be time travel, by 1.
  3. Lack of 10^27 people is a problem*, so we will also have that, also by 1.

The paradox: If time travel is so easy and there will be so many future lives, where are all the future rats?

No seriously, where are they? This FTTP orgy was supposed to start 24 hours ago.

Despite its title this isn't meant to be the best essay

Oh, thanks for clarifying, that was really hard to figure out. /s

Oh that’s accelerationist drivel if I’ve ever seen it.

Also, this has been bouncing around in my head ever since I’d learned of the term: “e/acc? More like, “Eek! Ack!”

Y'all have nailed how I felt reading this. You have this fellow who has constructed a cognitive process to self-harm at every juncture. Whenever there is an opportunity to believe in something that could bring them joy or closure etc., they head in the opposite direction because of some tenet they think is "correct" or "obvious" even though said tenet usually has a paper-thin justification. Davis is haunted by an Imp of the perverse; that imp is named Yudkowsky.
