The point is to protect national interests, not reject free contributions from normal people for non-security critical but useful software projects which is just idiotic

It still requires a phone number to make an account though iirc

They claim to be anarchist and I've seen a lot of users from there criticize Democrats, although they hate Marxists also, so I'm not sure. They're also one of the few instances that federates with Hexbear, but they do block Lemmygrad.

I don't think it's a big concern, if a big instance does something stupid people will just move to a different one, and people will also naturally move to instances with communities and moderation policies they prefer over time which will help spread things out

I'm not sure how Brave is significantly better for fingerprinting than Cromite other than being more popular, which it still isn't popular anyways and both of them can be bypassed with more advanced scripts. Vanadium is the most secure, being part of the GrapheneOS project, but all of the Chromium-based Android browsers have better security than FF-based currently, although I just saw somewhere that IronFox is enabling process isolation which is currently experimental.

I started my self hosting journey on a Dell all-in-one PC with 4 GB RAM, 500 GB hard drive, and Intel Pentium, running Proxmox, Nextcloud, and I think Home Assistant. I upgraded it eventually, now I'm on a build with Ryzen 3600, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD, and 4x4 TB HDD

Not anything super interesting at mine, basically everyone there was a Christian nationalist Fox News Republican and I got sick of being exclusively around people who were constantly promoting stuff that would criminalize and erase people like myself and didn't give a shit about anyone outside of their immediate community. For LGB it was a "love the sinner hate the sin" mindset though so it could have been a lot worse (although it's still considered basically the worst sin you can possibly commit aside from murder and worthy of the death penalty). For T though the environment was more hostile, I heard there was one person who came out as trans and was quickly expelled. Aside from that they taught stupid shit like dinosaurs still exist and the government is hiding them from us and dragons exist as well. Glad to be out of that shithole.

Unless you go to a Christian high school, then it sucks

I'm in Dallas and it fucking sucks, tons of suburban sprawl, tons of roads but public transit is barely functional and hard to design efficiently, a lot of the roads don't even have sidewalks or they just randomly end, the roads are designed in a way that promotes aggressive driving making it even more dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians, the local business scene here is depressing outside of restaurants and entertainment but there's like 20 Walmarts.

People were condemning the Pro-Palestine protests on my campus because "they could have followed the rules" and apparently sending a bunch of state troopers with weapons and snipers and a tank and arresting 20 protestors was a justified punishments for having a few tents and a tarp.

A ton of communities I'm interested in use Discord so I still use it. I use Armcord/Vencord on Linux and Bunny (not sure if it still exists) on Android.

The main problem at my high school was that people, both students and faculty, were constantly parroting shit they heard from Fox News (which is constantly promoting stuff under a racist agenda) and weren't in an environment that made them think about how their actions impact other people (which means the education system obviously failed at its job), so they would believe stuff like actual racism doesn't exist anymore and black people are oppressing white people and speech doesn't hurt anybody, and the extreme lack of diversity didn't help either. However, if you were to have a serious conversation with them most of them would say that racism is bad, so I think that if people actually had an understanding of the world beyond Fox News propaganda a lot of the edgy racist stuff would die off. With queerphobia there was the opposite problem, where people would bring up queer stuff in jokes to look edgy but in a serious context they would say that queerness is morally wrong.
